Job TitleHealth Safety Technician - RadiologicalLocationPiketon, OH 45661-9113 US (Primary)CategoryUSWJob TypeFull-timeEducationHigh School / GEDShift Work Required?YesTravelSecurity Clearance RequiredNot RequiredJob Description*Position is a bargaining unit-represented position and is available to International Bargaining Unit members only for the first seven (7) days.NOTE: "Substance Abuse Program Plan position and subject to random drug/alcohol testing."Position Overview:Under minimal supervision responsible for providing Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) support in one or more functional areas of Industrial Hygiene (IH), Industrial Safety (IS), Radiological or Environmental for the DUF6 project. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:Functional:Provides radiological monitoring and job coverage support for all DUF6 operations and maintenance activities to include:Radiological job coverage involving DUF6, UO2F2, and uranium oxide as the primary radiological hazardsRadiological job coverage involving use of an autoclave for purposes of converting the solid DUF6 contained in cylinders, into a DUF6 gasRadiological job coverage involving collecting dose rates on items with varying radiation levels such as those found when a DUF6 cylinder is being evacuated of its content as well as of the remaining heel materialsRadiological job coverage involving breaches of radiological systems and componentsRadiological job coverage including providing continuous radiological job coverageComprehensive documentation of radiological surveys and completion of recordsPossesses familiarity (including frequent use) of iPCM-12s, Low background counters, Alpha Sentry CAMs and standard hand held radiation and contamination detection instrumentsMaintains performance tests and operates radiological monitoring equipmentPerforms radiological contamination routines and radiation routines as required to adhere to the requirements of 10 CFR 835Conducts removable and fixed contamination surveys, and performs dose rate surveysPerforms radiological release surveys of material and items (M&E) with experience in performing these as required by MARSAMECollects air samples and performs air sample analysis, smear counting, and spectral analysisInputs data into the HIS-20 database, generates survey records and reports, and facilitates record archivalProvides technical input into work package development in accordance with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) principlesConducts radiological safety walk-downs and pre-job walk-downsAssists in the development of Radiological Work Permits (RWPs)Provides worker feedback and guidance with regard to real or perceived radiological safety issuesReviews and may develop ES&H proceduresStops/Suspends work of unsafe conditions potentially affecting personnel safety or environmental riskInteracts with management on policies, practices, and procedures to ensure safety of site personnelEnsures the radiological control program is in full compliance with 10 CFR 835Job RequirementsMinimum Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent3 years hands-on related radiological control technician experience, which should include:1 year experience in DOE radiological activities; and1/4 year on-site;or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience in a DOE or NRC-regulated environment (e.g., completion of standardized core training requirements or National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists registration)3 years of performing senior Radiological Control Technician job coverage (preferred)1 year of radiological job coverage experience involving UF6, UO2F2, and uranium oxide as the primary radiological hazards or equivalent (preferred)Experience working at a production facility that includes 24/7 operations (preferred)Ability to obtain and maintain a Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) credentialWe are equal opportunity/affirmative action employers, committed to diversity in the workplace.
