Job Type Part-timeDescriptionLOCATION: Teen Hype Youth Development Program - Detroit, MI 48207 POSITION SUMMARY: The ideal candidate for the Teen HYPE After School Program Group Leader role, offered by SEMHA, will lead and facilitate engaging activities that promote positive youth development outcomes for participants in Teen HYPE's After School Program. Maintain day-to-day program compliance while creating a safe, supportive, and dynamic environment where young people can thrive through homework assistance, recreational activities, leadership development, education and career exploration, health & life skills, the arts, and sports & fitness. Serve as a youth champion who prioritizes the voices, needs, and aspirations of young people in all aspects of program delivery.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Support engaging program activities that develop participants' social-emotional learning skills, leadership capacity, and personal growthCreate and maintain a positive learning environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomesBuild authentic relationships with program participants that demonstrate genuine compassion, care, and empathyAdapt programming to meet the diverse needs, interests, and developmental stages of participantsRespond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations following established protocolsAssist in maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming program spacesFollow all organizational policies, procedures, and licensing requirementsMaintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive informationAttend mandatory monthly After School Program staff meetingsParticipate in organizational events, fundraisers, and community activitiesMay transport participants using organizations van ( must meet van driver requirements & maintain appropriate licensing) Assist with program setup, breakdown, and special event logistics as neededPerform other duties as assigned to support program operations and organizational missionEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (A Group Leader shall be at least 18 yrs old & meet one of the following requirements:) Have a minimum of a 12 months of experience working with school-age children; orHave a high school diploma or equivalent; and have six months experience working with school-age children including three months supervised experience at a school-age childcare program; orHave nine months experience working with school-age children including three months supervised experience at a school-age childcare programSKILSS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATION:Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to connect with youth, families, and colleaguesGroup leadership skills including understanding of group dynamics and behavior management techniquesHigh energy, enthusiasm, and positive energy to bring to the work environmentCultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse populationsBasic computer literacy including email, digital communication platforms, and documentation systemsAbility to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a teamCommitment to youth development principles and positive youth development approachCPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire) requiredValid chauffeur's license is requiredSalary: $15.00 - $22.00 hourly (based on experience & qualifications) Employment Type: Part-TimeClassification: Non-ExemptApplication Deadline: May 10, 2026.
