Position Title: Medical Director Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire Location: Huntsville, AL 35801, United States Salary Range: $238,700 $381,300 per year Position Overview: The Medical Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day clinical operations, including planning, directing, and ensuring all medical policies and programs are implemented effectively. This role guarantees a quality healthcare system that meets established standards for all patients and providers. The Medical Director is also a practicing Clinic Physician, providing high-quality primary care by diagnosing patient conditions through comprehensive analysis of reports, test results, medical records, and family histories, and recommending appropriate treatment options. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Design, implement, and evaluate quality of care for all patients; maintain clinical procedures and protocol documentation. Provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care to patients regardless of age, sex, gender identity, income, national origin, or language, for a minimum of 16 hours per week according to privileges. Lead Quality Assurance (QA) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts, including regular meetings, clinical audits, and peer reviews; monitored by the CEO and reported to the Board. Collaborate with the medical team to foster a proactive, cohesive environment to enhance patient care. Work with the COO to improve clinical efficiency and workflows. Provide clinic leadership, offering advice and recommendations to the CEO. Support nurse practitioners through consultations, case presentations, chart reviews, training, and peer reviews. Assist in continuing education, on-the-job training, and staff orientation as requested. Supervise, advise, counsel, and discipline providers in coordination with Human Resources; approve medical leave. Participate in recruitment, retention, and interview processes for the medical team. Engage in short- and long-term program planning, including goal and objective development. Participate in budget development and ongoing monitoring for staffing, support plans, and equipment needs. Assist in developing medical department policies and procedures compliant with accreditation and professional standards. Support providers in operational tasks such as PTO coverage, refill requests, referral follow-up, telephone encounters, and EMR documentation. Ensure accurate, timely chart documentation in the Electronic Health Records system, locking charts within 72 hours of visits, following clinic and regulatory guidelines. Maintain licensure, including DEA certification and board certification; fulfill credentialing and privileging requirements internally and externally. Adhere to department policies, procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Travel and attend meetings as required to represent the agency and medical team. Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expertise in primary care management. Minimum 10 years of experience in community clinic settings preferred. At least 5 years in a leadership or executive role. Valid Alabama State Medical License with collaborative physician eligibility. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or other full-scope Primary Care specialty.
