Position Type: Interventionist/Reading InterventionistDate Posted: 3/23/2026Location: Lincoln Elementary School District 156READING INTERVENTIONISTGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Reading Interventionist will have the responsibility for the literacy performance of K-8 readers in general and for struggling readers in particular (providing instruction and interventions and serving as a resource to teachers) by provides individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically. This position is responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Academics QUALIFICATIONS: Current Illinois Professional Educator License - Elementary (K-8) Master's degree in Reading and/or a Reading Specialist Endorsement or Reading Teacher Certificate (K-8) Demonstrates knowledge of Illinois ELA Learning Standards Minimum three years teaching experience preferred Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate research-based instructional strategies Knowledge of technology based activities that assist and facilitate student progress. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate with colleagues and team members. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. RESPONSIBILITIES: Creates a positive, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized, small group instruction, and student learning. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction. Establish and communicate clear objectives and procedures for all learning activities Prepare classroom materials and organize the classroom environment for effective instruction Engage students in instruction. Implement effective questioning and discussion techniques to promote student learning. Uses a variety of assessment tools and practices to plan and evaluate effective reading instruction to provide direct literacy instruction for students identified by the MTSS process. Collaboration, facilitation of instructional strategies, modeling, observing, and providing feedback to colleagues Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum Collaborate with teams on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs Monitor, track and assess student progress using a variety of measures to inform instructional decision-making and promote student achievement Assist with benchmark testing as needed Promote student ownership in learning by providing appropriate instructional feedback to students to improve learning Implement positive behavioral intervention system and manage classroom to maintain a safe learning environment and foster appropriate student behavior in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the district Participate in team, school, district and meetings Maintain a comprehensive inventory of instructional materials and resources such as but not limited to appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records Participate in parent conferences and provide instructional suggestions Serve as a member of the MTSS Team Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds responding equitably at all times Collaborates and consults with instructional support personnel to plan and implement research-based literacy instruction for students Encourage parent and community involvement, send student progress information, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, local and regional conferences, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
