JOB SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the director of medical imaging, and according to established policies and procedures, performs all required diagnostic computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanning procedures with knowledge of all pertinent technical and academic areas to produce consistent, high-quality examinations. The computerized tomography technologist functions independently within the broad scope of established department policies and goals; referring specific problems to supervisors when clarification of operating policies and procedures may be required. JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology Wisconsin state licensure and ARRT certification BLS certification (within first three months of employment) Minimum Work Experience One year experience as a radiologic technologist Required Skills Demonstrates ingenuity and initiative with various technical procedures and equipment operation on an individual patient basis to provide the highest-quality examination. Demonstrates skill and knowledge to identify disease abnormalities and physiological processes while performing CT scans, with initiative to communicate to the radiologist to allow for the opportunity to obtain additional scans, views, or technical factors as required to provide maximum information for the radiologist to make an accurate diagnosis. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple patients Ability to adapt to change with a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs all required diagnostic CT scans, consistently demonstrating good judgment in evaluating the diagnostic studies for quality and diagnosis. Performs necessary clerical work by assuring proper scheduling, correct exam, obtaining prior report/scan, patient lab values, prior authorization, and review of clinic notes. Monitors the condition of patients within the department and assists the radiologist or other provider in performing needed medical attention such as first aid, and BLS. Recognizes and initiates treatment of allergic reactions adhering to departmental policy and procedure. Assist Radiologists and other physicians in the performance of biopsies, and Interventional procedures. Assume responsibility for sterile technique procedures and contrast requested by radiologist. Assist physicians and prepare supplies and special trays. Performs reconstruction of proper images. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns (computer, scanner, injector) to the Medical Imaging Director. Cleans and maintains the CT environment. Maintains quality control of CT equipment to ensure the scanner is operating properly. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Determines the qualifications who use equipment and administer procedures under the direction of the Radiologist. Works a share of on-call hours on a rotating basis, to include weekends and holidays. Attends monthly department meetings. Maintains compliance with continuing medical education requirements through professional journals, on the job training and other educational opportunities. Other duties as assigned within scope, responsibility and certification of position.
