DFA supports executive leadership, the Legislature, state agencies, and the public by promoting sound fiscal stewardship and consistent financial practices across New Mexico government.The Financial Control Division (FCD) is responsible for statewide accounting policy, financial reporting, and oversight of the State's financial systems, including SHARE. The Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) Bureau within FCD leads the preparation of the State of New Mexico's ACFR in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and applicable federal reporting standards. The Bureau works closely with state agencies, external auditors, and oversight entities to ensure timely, accurate, and transparent financial reporting for the State. Why does the job exist?The Deputy ACFR Bureau Chief position exists to support the preparation, oversight, and timely issuance of the State of New Mexico's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards, and applicable federal requirements.This role provides operational leadership and technical expertise to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of the State's financial reporting. The position strengthens internal controls, enhances audit readiness, supports implementation of new GASB pronouncements, and ensures compliance with statutory reporting deadlines.The Deputy Bureau Chief also serves as a key succession and continuity position within the Financial Control Division, providing supervisory oversight of professional accounting staff and assisting the Bureau Chief in coordinating with state agencies, external auditors, and oversight entities. This position performs and oversees complex accounting analyses, including implementation of new GASB pronouncements, preparation of financial statement disclosures, and reporting related to capital assets, long-term liabilities, leases, and other highly technical accounting areas.The Deputy Bureau Chief provides direct supervisory oversight to professional accounting staff, ensuring work is accurately completed, thoroughly reviewed, and delivered within established timelines. Responsibilities include assigning work, conducting quality control reviews, mentoring staff, supporting professional development, and promoting strong internal controls over financial reporting.This role coordinates closely with state agencies to ensure accurate and timely submission of financial reporting packages and supporting documentation, while serving as a primary liaison with external auditors during the annual financial audit. The position is responsible for preparing audit schedules, responding to audit inquiries, facilitating resolution of audit issues, and enhancing overall audit readiness.In addition, the Deputy ACFR Bureau Chief supports statewide financial reporting initiatives, system enhancements within SHARE, and continuous process improvement efforts designed to strengthen efficiency, standardization, and data integrity. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
