Job SummaryPeer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS) are individuals who are in recovery from substance use or co-occurring mental health disorders. Their lived experience and recovery maintenance provide them with a unique opportunity to motivate others who are struggling with addiction into treatment and move towards a healthier lifestyle. The PRSS will work as part of the CAMC Addiction Care team to initiate recovery focused conversations with patients who present to the hospital for substance use related illnesses and assist with linking patients to community resources that will promote long term recovery.Responsibilities1. Willingly and publicly self- identify as being in recovery from a substance use disorder.2. Provide Peer Recovery Support Specialist services to individuals throughout the hospital who would benefit from the service.3. Initiate nonjudgmental recovery focused conversation with individuals, families and staff.4. To be willing to share his/her own story of recovery with others to serve as inspiration.5. To serve as a positive role model for patients, staff and the general community.6. To motivate and engage individuals within our system in seeking stabilization and long term recovery.7. To assist individuals and families in obtaining recovery oriented materials.8. To link individuals with recovery resources within the community and facilitate engagement in these resources upon hospital discharge.9. To participate in weekly supervision and monthly team meetings.10. To establish connections with community resources and work in a collaborative manner to provide comprehensive support to our patients.11. To adhere to the Peer Recovery Support Specialist Code of Ethics. (NAADAC)12. To uphold confidentiality and abide by all HIPPA standards.13. Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations, be able to take direction, be prompt, take initiative, complete tasks as assigned and work effectively as part of a team.14. To facilitate recovery focused support groups and other recovery focused activities as assigned.15. To maintain concise and timely documentation and other records needed for data tracking purposes.16. Flexibility and patience when dealing with changes, delays or unexpected events.17. Establish rapport with patients by maintaining a positive, compassionate and helpful attitude.18. Willing to help out with other tasks as needed.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesPatient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.Competency StatementMust demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.Common Duties and Responsibilities(Essential duties common to all positions)1. Perform related duties as assigned.Education • High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: Lived experience in addiction recovery and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. Maintain long term stable recovery. To have a basic understanding of recovery as it relates to behavioral health. To be familiar and comfortable with recovery planning and motivating for change. Self-identify as being in recovery for at least two (2) years. Engaged in a recovery support system: community or personal. No legal involvement within the past two (2) years and/ or pending legal issues. No intensive behavioral health treatment involvement within the last two (2) years (i.e. crisis stabilization, detoxification services, residential treatment, or psychiatric hospitalization.)Comment: Inter hospital travel may be necessary at times. Will need to have a personal vehicle or knowledge of public transportation system. Credentials • Peer Recovery Support Specialist (Required) Comment: WV Peer Certification (PRSS). Can be completed at no cost through the WV Bureau of Medical Services website. WV Peer Recovery Certification will be a requirement. It will be the responsibility of the individual hired to complete the training and pass the exam within the first 6 months of ment: WV Peer Certification (PRSS).
