Orthopedic CMA also assists physicians in the care & treatment of patients with orthopedic needs in a clinic facility. Maintains the cast room & orthopedic equipment & devices. Assists with the application & removal of casts & other related duties. Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneDuties/Responsibilities:Uses only approved abbreviations.Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.Assists patients into exam rooms in a prompt, efficient, & friendly manner.Takes vital signs & prepares patient for exam in an accurate & appropriate manner.Transports patients safely & efficiently.Assists as needed with patient care as requested including set-up & tear down of procedures.Prepares & mails appropriate preparation instructions to patients.Inquires & documents in patient's medical record as appropriate regarding x-rays & test results for patient appointments.Performs testing as ordered & enters charges. Submits order to health records in timely manner.Performs venipuncture safely & accurately, submits orders appropriately.Performs subcutaneous & intramuscular injections, enters charges, & documents.Performs CLIA Waived testing & complies with all regulations.Assists the patient with maintaining an updated medication record.Submits prescriptions to pharmacies accurately & timely.Assists in the education regarding medications & their side effects.Demonstrates knowledge of isolation procedures.Cleans & maintains equipment according to policy.Transports instruments & equipment in a safe manner.Prepares specimens for lab in a safe & timely manner.Checks & puts away sterilized instruments accurately.Cleans exam rooms in a safe & efficient manner.Determines call direction in an accurate, efficient, & friendly manner.Takes accurate messages & delivers in a timely manner.Orchestrates effective communication over multiple phone lines for both incoming & outgoing calls.Confirms all upcoming appointments by phone.Maintains appropriate statistics for patient care.Schedules, acknowledges, & edits all physician's schedules on computer system.Assists front office as needed.Retrieves/ handles voicemail messages as appropriate in a timely manner & documents all encounters with patient in medical record.Sorts mail & delivers to physician areas.Organizes & retrieves referral letters & information pertinent to the patient's care including information from the EHR & scans.Assists in complying with pre-certification needs for testing & therapies.Stocks rooms with appropriate supplies as requested.Maintain security systems as appropriate.Takes responsibility for ordering & maintaining supplies & equipment as requested.Casting of patients (all types of casts)Fitting & applying pre-operative braces, splints, crutches, etc. as directed by the Provider.Removal of casts as directed by Provider.Provide patient instructions of cast care, splints, braces, surgery expectations, etc.Sets up video when applicable for patient to watch in the office as directed by the Provider.Maintaining the cast saw & blades.Assists with all procedures in the office.Setting up ultrasound equipment as directed by Provider.Prep all ortho charts to be x-ray ready upon arrival.Prep the injection bins.Order all medications & label (for the serial injections-usually 3 per patient)Do all prior authorizations for wheelchairs, commodes, walkers, etc.All injectable medication ordering, prior authorizations & coordinating patient visits to be eligible to receive.Assists with medication prior authorizations as directed.DJO (DME provider) closet stocking/overflow, putting all orders away.Bone stimulator orderingCustom brace orderingEnd of month expirations & medication requisitionsAbility to be a team player.Ensure smooth office operations that support teamwork & generate a positive attitude between front & back office staff.Required Skills/Abilities: Strong verbal, written, & listening communication skillsExceptional organizational skills, able to multi-taskAble to perform basic medical assisting skills; castingMust be able to operate office & medical equipmentEducation and Experience:Additional education & training beyond high school is requiredMust be a Certified Medical AssistantMinimum of 2 years relevant work experience is requiredPhysical Requirements: Occasionally may have to lift over 50 lbsFrequent use of hands, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, stooping, talking, pushing, pulling Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
