Environmental Health and Safety utilizes a two-level Health Physicist structure, with placement determined by the candidate's demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant experience. As a Health Physicist I, you will: * Conduct contamination surveys, leak tests, and compliance report preparation for the Radiation Protection Program. * Perform inspections of laboratories using sealed and unsealed sources, x-ray producing devices, and neutron sources. * Perform bioassays. * Respond to minor radiation exposure and contamination incidents. * Assist with commissioning and decommissioning of radiation use locations. * Prepare shipments and receive radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices in compliance with regulations. * Coordinate dosimetry and area dose monitoring. * Support institutional laser safety oversight efforts, including assisting with inventory and user guidance. * Ensure accurate, compliant recordkeeping and documentation. * Provide training, guidance, and support to stakeholders for radioactive materials. As a Health Physicist II, you will: * Assess and approve deliverables in support of the Radiation Protection Program, such as contamination surveys, leak tests, and compliance reports. * Draft Radiation Protection Plans and shielding reviews. * Investigate and formulate recommendations related to incidents, exposures, illnesses, or property damage involving the use of radioactive materials or lasers. * Assist in the administration of dosimetry and area dose monitoring. * Analyze dosimetry data, identify and investigate unusual exposure results, and prepare documentation of findings. * Assist in the maintenance of and amendments to the radioactive material licenses and registrations issued by the state. * Collaborate with and advise Principal Investigators during the licensing and registration processes for radioactive material and laser use. * Ensure accurate, compliant recordkeeping and documentation. * Provide training, guidance, and support to stakeholders for radiation and laser safety.
