POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for managing the operation of the nursing units in the facility. Assists the Director of Nursing with administrative duties and the supervision of nursing staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.Acts as liaison between nursing units, admissions and the DONEnsure Safety for all ResidentsMonitors and evaluates nursing staff and makes recommendations for training or work modification to the DONPerforms personnel management functions such as establishing personnel qualification requirements, drafting procedure manuals, initiating in-service programs, and installing record and reporting systemsPerforms studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services in relation to their objectives and costEnsures that annual competency evaluations and performance reviews are completed in the appropriate time framePro-actively addresses survey and/or standards of care issues (weight loss, gradual dose reduction, pressure ulcers and change of condition etc.)Follow up on resident/family/employee concerns in a timely mannerPlans and guides the professional development of nursing staffDaily chart audits to review all assessments; nursing summaries, MARS, treatment, flow sheets and nurse's notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident's response to the care and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident's wishesMonitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduledReport any medication errors and any significant changes of resident status to the Director of Nursing/AdministratorAssist the DON in investigations of all allegations of resident abuseRepresents the DON at meetings in the community and assumes responsibility for nursing operations in the Director of Nursing's absenceWorks with the staffing coordinator to ensure that shifts have adequate nursing staff to meet facility/census requirementsAssists DON in preparing reports and forms in a timely mannerParticipates in counseling, disciplinary action and termination of staff, to the extent permitted by state practice actPerform other tasks as assignedQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
