Determines acceptability of donors and takes blood pressure. Prepares donor and phlebotomy area for blood collection. Performs venipuncture to collect blood donation according to established procedures. Labels blood donations or performs venipuncture on residents, patients, consumers, or employees to collect blood specimens as requested by medical staff. Labels and centrifuges specimens into separate containers. Prepares specimens for transport to outside laboratory sites. Monitors donors for reactions following donations. Sterilizes and cleans equipment and disposes of supplies used during venipuncture according to specified precautions. Maintains supplies and prepares daily logs of testing and received reports. Files all reports received and reviews them, delivering to the proper medical area. Answers or places calls concerning the status or results of tests. Sets up equipment daily and prepares slides for tests and differentials. Prepares urine specimens for transport for outside testing. Establishes and maintains good rapport with donors.
