JOB SUMMARY: The Research Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Research and Development in the Center of Biomedical Health Research (CBMHR) program is responsible for supporting the CBMHR Executive Leadership Team in faculty career advancement, professional development, and grantsmanship activities. The individual will be instrumental in stimulating faculty research collaborations and research innovation initiatives to improve human health outcomes. Reporting to the Pis/PD of the CBMHR and Investigator Development Core Director, the Associate Director holds primary responsibility to support human capital development by enhancing mentoring and investigator development of researchers, postdocs, structured research mentoring, and collaborative activities. Additionally, the successful candidate will conduct and advance community and public health research, oversee CBMHR faculty career advancement, professional development, and grantsmanship activities, and contribute to the development of a robust community and public health research, socio-behavioral and clinical research environment. This includes applying community-based solutions and innovative public health approaches to support research; mentoring students and junior investigators; generating scholarly publications; and pursuing external funding opportunities. This position requires demonstrated expertise in community engagement and public health research, and faculty development, or a closely related field. The role involves designing and implementing mentoring and career advancement programs, developing research methodologies in community engagement and public health, fostering collaborative research initiatives, and supporting the operation and growth of CBMHR. This is a Grant Funded position. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Research Assistant Professor and Associate Director of CBMHR Research and Development will play a critical role in promoting research activities on the TSU campus and stimulate collaborations among TSU faculty, communities, and investigators with institutions of the Texas Medical Center and nationwide. Proven track record of managing multiple data analytics research projects, submitting grants, leading staff, providing workshops, seminars and trainings, and developing partnerships with key stakeholders within and outside the organization. Extensive experience in general management, strategic planning, identification, application, and execution of grants, budget management, and reporting. Experience serving as an expert source of information, with a collaborative and flexible style. Experience developing trusting long-term relationships with constituents and creating and maintaining a team culture. Essential Duties Summary DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Work with Pis/PD of the CBMHR and Investigator Development Core Director to supervise and implement the TEAMRCMI Incubator program. * Establish a structured research mentorship program for TSU CBMHR faculty, postdocs, and students. * Assess research resources and facilities needs for faculty to be successful in research. * Enable and assist faculty to identify and secure external funds through regional, national and international grants (institutional and individual), partnerships and contracts to support research at TSU. * Support faculty in proposal development, writing grants, and grants submissions. * Facilitate research training and professional development activities for faculty, postdocs, and students. * Create a university infrastructure, environment and culture inside the University that facilitates, encourages, inspires, nurtures, enhances and supports research and innovation. * Showcase TSU faculty and student research programs and initiatives. * Support joint research programs with partner institutions. * Foster research that responds to challenges confronting urban communities. * Collect, assess, and report the impact of research training and faculty development activities. * Ensure compliance with all research administration requirements including legislative, ethics, regulatory, funding agency and others. * Conduct active research projects and supervise research staff. * Perform other duties as assigned. Scholarly and Professional Contributions * Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences and institutional symposia. * Prepare project reports, progress documents, and contribute to grant proposals to secure extramural research funding. * Participate in professional development activities and stay current with emerging computational and biomedical research advances. % FTE 1.0 Hiring Range $98,509.22-$128,061.99 Education Required: Doctorate degree in biomedical, and/or public health-related fields Required Licensing/Certification None Required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: * Relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including Federal, State, and Local laws. * Federal auditing standards in general and particularly as they apply to colleges and universities with federal funds. * Knowledge of research policies, procedures, and practices . * Knowledge of conflict of interest and ethics requirements, including federal research requirements. * Other job-related software and systems. Work Experience Required: * Two (2) years related experience in research development and training programs and/or activities. Preferred: * Experience in working within higher education. * Demonstrated leadership experience in faculty development and research training. Working/Environmental Conditions * Routine office environment. * Sitting or standing in one location much of the time . * Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects light weight may be required .
