Job Title: Lab Tech Location: Portales, NMJob Description: The Laboratory Technician performs clinical laboratory testing as a generalist in a safe environment that supports good laboratory practices. This role requires the ability to function across all areas of the clinical laboratory, including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis, and phlebotomy. Routine phlebotomy services are performed as needed.Essential Job Responsibilities: Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Process specimens, perform laboratory tests, and report accurate test results. Perform high-complexity testing as authorized and within scope of education, training, and experience. Follow established procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting, and recordkeeping. Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing is conducted in the same manner as patient testing. Adhere to quality control policies; document quality control activities, calibrations, and equipment maintenance. Follow established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance limits. Identify issues affecting test performance or result reporting and correct them or escalate appropriately. Document corrective actions taken when performance specifications are not met. Use age-appropriate communication methods for phlebotomy and laboratory customer service. Assist with monitoring inventory of supplies, reagents, and test kits. Communicate critical test results according to laboratory policy. Interact professionally with laboratory leadership, clinical staff, coworkers, and healthcare customers. Qualifications: Associate or bachelor's degree (or higher) in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or compliance with CLIA testing personnel qualifications. Certification or registration through ASCP, AMT, NCA, or U.S. Department of HHS/HEW. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire). Professional Requirements: Maintain professional appearance and adhere to dress code. Complete required annual education and training. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Wear required identification while on duty. Comply with all state, federal, and local regulations. Represent the organization professionally and ethically. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Attend staff meetings and in-service training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of medical laboratory and diagnostic testing services. Physically demanding, high-stress laboratory environment. Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions. Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds. Full range of body motion, including lifting and positioning patients. Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, handling objects, speaking, hearing, and visual acuity.
