SUMMARY: Participates in research and development activities related to new product and process development initiatives, utilizing established mathematical and scientific methodologies. The primary responsibility is to innovate in new product and process development, provide technical support that enables customer success with H&V products. A secondary responsibility is to introduce, integrate and leverage AI tools and methodologies to enhance R&D efficiency. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Lead product or process development projects * Work directly with customers and Division Sales & Marketing to develop new products for existing markets identified by the division. * Develop expertise in appropriate materials technology, as necessary to plan, execute and evaluate laboratory and machine-based trial programs, using the Design of Experiments methodology. * Use appropriate DFSS/DFM tools and Stage Gate process for development projects. * Work with manufacturing, purchasing and technology on Margin Improvement Initiatives (MIPs). * Benchmark competitor grades and technologies. * Patent novel inventions. * Integrate AI capabilities into R&D and product development * Evaluate, implement, and scale AI tools that enhance product development workflows, such as predictive modeling, experimental design optimization, material property prediction, and performance simulation. * Help the development of AI-driven models to support product performance forecasting. * Train other R&D colleagues on AI-based tools * Collaborate with other teams to ensure proper data quality, governance, and usability for AI applications. * Interface internally and externally. * Develop introductory relationships with customers and vendors. * Provide technical guidance to management, divisions, customers and manufacturing on new and modified product development efforts. * Communicate plans and results effectively. * Influence scientists and managers at multiple locations. * Supervise laboratory technicians to achieve product development objectives and develop technician's technical and personal skill base to maximum potential. * Provide technical reports and presentations to internal and external project stakeholders, including contributions to Atrium knowledge management system. * Understand the relevant end use application. * Assist Division Sales and Marketing with technical service in the selection of existing grades capable of meeting stated technical and processing requirements. * Keep abreast of relevant industry, applications and materials technology trends through literature, seminars and market contact. * Be knowledgeable about test methods used to determine physical characteristics of the material as well as its performance in the end use application. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * PhD. in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Data Science or related field * S. or M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Data Science or a related field with equivalent years of relevant work experience. * Industrial or project experience applying AI tools for materials modeling, process optimization, predictive analysis, or experimental design is preferred
