Dickson Health and Rehab - Director of Nursing (DON)Position Title: Director of NursingDepartment: Nursing ServicesReports To: AdministratorFLSA Status: Exempt (Salary)Location: Eminence Dickson Healthcare and RehabPosition Summary:The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operation of the Nursing Services Department in a long-term care facility. The DON ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS guidelines, while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Leadership & ManagementDirect, supervise, and evaluate all nursing personnelDevelop staffing plans to ensure appropriate coverage and acuity-based careFoster a positive work environment and promote staff retentionParticipate in recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ongoing trainingClinical OversightEnsure delivery of quality nursing care to all residentsOversee care planning process and interdisciplinary collaborationMonitor infection control practices and clinical outcomesEnsure proper documentation and adherence to standards of careRegulatory Compliance & Survey ReadinessMaintain compliance with all CMS, federal, and state regulationsLead facility preparation for state and federal surveysDevelop and implement Plans of Correction (POC) when necessaryMonitor and address compliance issues, including F-tagsQuality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI)Lead QAPI initiatives and performance improvement effortsAnalyze clinical data, trends, and quality indicatorsImplement corrective actions to improve resident outcomesStaff Development & EducationEnsure ongoing education and competency of nursing staffConduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as neededPromote leadership development within the nursing teamResident & Family RelationsAddress concerns and grievances related to nursing carePromote resident rights, dignity, and person-centered careCollaborate with families and interdisciplinary team membersOperational ResponsibilitiesManage nursing department budget and resourcesEnsure appropriate use of supplies and equipmentParticipate in facility committees and leadership meetingsMaintain adequate staffing levels and schedule coverageOn-Call ResponsibilityParticipate in on-call rotation and respond to facility needs as requiredMinimum Qualifications:Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.Minimum [2–5] years of nursing leadership experience (preferably in LTC/SNF)Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and survey processDemonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skillsPreferred Qualifications:Prior experience as Director of Nursing or Assistant DONExperience with CMS quality measures and Five-Star programBSN or advanced nursing degreeKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong understanding of clinical operations in long-term careAbility to lead teams and manage multiple prioritiesKnowledge of infection control, documentation standards, and risk managementEffective problem-solving and decision-making skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismPhysical Requirements:Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facilityAbility to lift, push, or pull up as neededAbility to respond quickly in emergency situationsWork Environment:Long-term care setting with frequent interruptionsExposure to infectious diseases and healthcare-related hazardsRequires flexibility in schedule, including weekends and on-callCompliance Statement:The Director of Nursing must comply with all facility policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities.Equal Opportunity Employer Statement:Eminence Dickson Healthcare and Rehab is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable employment laws.Come join our team today!
