DescriptionWork Location:300 Mabry St.Tallahassee, FL 32304Schedule of Work:Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 2:00 PMMission Contribution:Support Goodwill's mission by directly providing training, education, and employment to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment, helping them reach their fullest potential and achieve greater independence. Through your role, you contribute to empowering individuals and strengthening our community.Primary Function:Under the supervision of the Center Manager, the Career Specialist is responsible for providing daily job leads that are consistent with the needs of the job seekers in the Center. The Career Specialist oversees the Drop-in Lab and ensures proper functioning and set-up of equipment. The Career Specialist is evaluated based on 1) the number of people using the drop-in lab; 2) the number of QUALITY job leads posted daily and 3) the number of job placements recorded from the drop-in lab.Essential Functions:Actively engages light touch individuals who use the drop-in lab services.Obtains information regarding the types of jobs and job requirements needed by individuals using the drop-in lab.Pursues quality job leads daily. "Quality" is defined as job leads that are 1) not easily found by participants using Indeed, but rather that are gathered from other sources; and 2) meet the requests and needs of the job seekers.Posts new job leads daily.Interacts with employers by phone to determine their specialized needs.Screens potential and interested applicants based on the needs of the employer.Refers only qualified individuals to jobs.Documents employer contacts and job openingsMaintains written lab logs and attendance sheets as required by supervisor.Documents job leads given and the results of those job leads in the participant tracking system daily.Obtains feedback from participants through satisfaction surveys as outlined in department procedures.Actively seeks and collects job placement information from participants and enters it in the participant tracking system weekly.Actively pursues participants who have not attended the lab in a week to ensure they remain active or to collect job placement information.Maintains a welcoming environment conducive to working on computers to facilitate productivity.Ensures all participants are focused on job related activities and are following the rules of the lab.Supervises and motivates participants using positive behavior modification techniques to teach appropriate behavior.Ensures computers and printers are in working order and are fixed or replaced when not working.Encourages engagement of drop-in participants into deeper level services by ensuring that the level of service given is based on the level of enrollment (i.e., a person who is only enrolled in drop-in services must be encouraged to attend workshops if they need resume preparation; someone who needs constant assistance completing an application should be engaged at a higher level.Demonstrates a healthy work ethic by keeping personal phone calls, texts, and social media to a minimum while at work.Develops and maintains a professional public image in dress and demeanor.Maintains a professional relationship with all Goodwill staff, employers, and service providers.Demonstrates strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and avoids destructive sideways communication.Demonstrates a good understanding of, and a strong commitment to, quality customer service.Maintains a respectful and professional relationship with all participants, and maintains professional boundaries with all participants.Demonstrates good judgment in making decisions, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.Works effectively with minimal supervision.Follows instructions and complies with policies and procedures.Demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to learn, and adapts as required by management.Arrives to work on time, takes appropriate lunch breaks, stays until closing time, and alerts supervisor in advance when late or absent.Demonstrates creativity, finds new and better ways of doing things, and proposes ideas.Shows initiative in gaining new skills and improving in weak areas.Competencies:Handling Multiple TasksWorld Class Customer ServiceProtecting the BrandClear CommunicationAdvanced Computer SkillsCoaching & MentoringRequirements:Must be able to demonstrate good judgment Computer literate - experience with multimedia formats, Microsoft Office, and data management systems.Good work ethic Able to work with minimal supervisionAble to follow instructions and comply with policies and proceduresAble to maintain good relationships with co-workersMust have dependable transportation, a valid Florida Driver's License, and a current private auto insurance policy.Flexibility and willingness to learn.
