Position OverviewThe Research Scientist will conduct dairy chemistry research and must have knowledge in food, dairy, or protein chemistry. The scientific method will be followed to identify key factors that will lead to understanding and improvement of product texture and flavor. It is expected that the Research Scientist will quickly gain understanding of our product composition and manufacturing processes. The Research Scientist is a core member of the Research Team and works in close collaboration with the R&D department and others across the company in a project dependent manner. This role reports to the Research Manager. Serving as a subject-matter expert in dairy proteins and protein chemistry, this role bridges laboratory innovation with practical manufacturing needs. The Research Scientist conducts basic science experiments and translates experimental findings into scalable, commercially viable solutions that enhance product quality and consistency. Their work supports continuous improvement and strengthens the company's competitive edge within the dairy industry. Responsibilities Design and execute experiments using modern analytical techniques following the scientific method. Assist the company in developing methods for studying proteins and peptides. Collect samples, perform testing, analyze data, and report findings across multiple experiments. Develop or adapt existing methodologies to further research goals. Maintain equipment by performing routine maintenance and working with vendors for preventative maintenance and repair of analytical instrumentation. Seek out new technologies and methods to further the understanding and improvement of Daisy products. Evaluate data for accuracy and precision. Work as an individual contributor as well as a collaborator to achieve project objectives. This role may require additional responsibilities as needed to support team and business objectives.QualificationsRequired Qualifications Ph.D. degree in dairy or food chemistry, biochemistry or general chemistry. At least three years of research experience working with chromatography and mass spectrometry. One to three years of industry experience is preferred.Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of dairy chemistry and/or protein chemistry is required. Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience of LC-MS and HPLC is required. MALDI-TOF and GC-MS experience is a plus. Knowledge and hands on experience in protein sequencing by mass spectrometry is required. Knowledge of enzyme kinetics is a plus. Flavor chemistry knowledge related to dairy products is a plus. Must be organized and able to maintain progress on several concurrent projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills. Knowledge of statistical analysis.
