Specimen Technician Location: Lewisville, TX Onsite Flexibility: Onsite Contract Details: Position Type: ContractContract Duration: 3 monthsShift / Schedule: 10pm 6:30am Tuesday to Saturday Job Summary: The Specimen Technician I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. The SPT I must have the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by client. The SPT I must have the ability to learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required. The SPT I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer. Majority of SPT I work on the nightshift but based on staffing needs, weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime availability is a requirement. Key Responsibilities: Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing DepartmentPerform functions including but not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquotingPerform all functions with confidence, accuracy and in a timely mannerWork in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habitsCommunicate effectively with all levels of staffAdhere to core values, safety and compliance policies and proceduresKeep work area neat and cleanDemonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environmentDemonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to change Education Requirements: HS diploma or equivalent Required Experience: No experience required but previous laboratory experience preferredMedical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratoryPrevious hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not requiredPrevious experience in a production environment preferred Required Skills: Data entry backgroundAbility to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hourGood organization skillsAbility to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by clientAbility to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test orderingGood safety habits in biohazard environmentAbility to sit or stand for long periodsEffective communication with all levels of staff Preferred Skills: Basic understanding of computers with preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing Work Environment / Physical Requirements: Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habitsAble to sit or stand for long periodsDepartment is a production environment, with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times Benefits: Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans401k Retirement Fund About the Client: Leading provider of diagnostic information services empowering healthier lives.
