Job Description

Organization Overview The ultimate objective of the work in my laboratory is to understand the cellular and molecular basis of vertebrate embryonic induction, with a special emphasis on germ layer and organ formation. Toward this aim, we perform comparative studies using both amphibian and mammalian model systems, including human embryonic stem cells. Overview The postdoc will work on a project studying coral stem cells. They will use proprietary micropattern technology and other tissue culture techniques to develop techniques to isolate, culture, and propagate adult and embryonic coral stem cells. Our lab places a strong emphasis on fostering a culture of open communication and collaboration, and we strive to build a supportive culture in our endeavors. More research can be found in Responsibilities Responsibilities include: * Leading a project in coral stem cell isolation, characterization, preservation, and propagation * Develop and implement data analysis and visualization strategies, perform statistical analysis and help develop models to understand complex biological phenomena * Prepare and present research findings to the research team * Mentoring research assistants Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * PhD degree in a relevant field such as marine biology and ecology, marine bioengineering, environmental science, etc. * Expertise or experience in coral upkeep and captive coral spawing. * Experience in confocal imaging techniques and equipment. * Good tissue culture and molecular biology experience. * Must be able to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Individuals with thorough working knowledge of molecular, stem-cell biology, biochemistry, and/or genetics are strongly encouraged to apply * Strong computational skills is a plus * Effective written and oral communication skills * Demonstrates an aptitude to be a lead author on peer-reviewed publications The Rockefeller University is an equal opportunity employer - veterans/individuals with disabilities.
