Named in honor of former Akron residents Albert and Janet Schultz-whose generous 2013 gift was a transformative moment for the local Jewish community-the Schultz Campus continues to be a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds.About the Role:The Camp Staff position at Shaw JCC is a dynamic role focused on creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for campers of all ages. The primary goal is to facilitate a variety of recreational, educational, and social activities that promote personal growth, teamwork, and community spirit. Camp Staff members serve as positive role models, ensuring that all campers feel supported and encouraged throughout their camp experience. This role requires adaptability, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to upholding the values and standards of the JCC community. Ultimately, Camp Staff contribute significantly to delivering a memorable and enriching summer camp experience that fosters lifelong friendships and skills.Our 2026 camp season will run from June 8th - August 14th. There is a mandatory training week beginning June 1st. Minimum Qualifications:Must be at least 20 years of age.Previous experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.Ability to pass a background check and comply with all health and safety regulations.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.Preferred Qualifications:Certification in CPR and First Aid.Experience in leading group activities or specialized skills such as sports, arts, or outdoor education.Familiarity with the values and mission of the JCC community.Previous training in conflict resolution or child development.Special education experience to support diverse camper populations.Responsibilities:Supervise and engage with campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.Plan and lead age-appropriate recreational and educational activities that align with camp goals and values.Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff to maintain a positive and collaborative environment.Respond promptly and appropriately to any behavioral or safety issues, following established protocols.Assist in setting up and cleaning camp facilities and equipment to maintain a clean and organized environment.Skills:Camp Staff utilize strong communication skills daily to engage with campers, parents, and colleagues, ensuring clear and positive interactions. Leadership and organizational skills are essential for planning and executing activities that are both fun and educational. Problem-solving abilities are frequently applied to address unexpected challenges or conflicts in a calm and effective manner. The ability to work as part of a team supports a cooperative environment that enhances the overall camp experience. Additionally, skills in first aid and safety protocols are critical to maintaining a secure environment for all participants.Available Shifts:7:40am-3:40pm9:00am-5:00pm10:45am-5:45pm
