Job Summary (List Format) - Respiratory Therapist (Hawaii RT License Required): - Independently administers respiratory tests and treatments to patients with respiratory diseases and disorders, including critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients. - Initiates, monitors, and maintains life support systems (e.g., ventilators) for patients requiring continuous ventilation; performs emergency intubation and ventilator adjustments based on lab results and physician consultation. - Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of the resuscitation team, including airway management and manual ventilation during emergencies and patient transfers. - Assesses and evaluates patients with respiratory disorders; reviews clinical status, history, lab results, x-rays, and vital signs to recommend treatment methods directly to physicians. - Administers prescribed treatments and medications, determining appropriate methods, monitoring patient responses, and documenting outcomes; communicates with patients and families to explain procedures and alleviate concerns. - Performs chest physiotherapy treatments (postural drainage, percussion, vibration) and monitors for adverse reactions, adjusting as necessary. - Operates pulmonary function testing equipment and performs basic respiratory screenings to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning. - Operates and maintains pulse oximetry monitors for spot-checking oxygen saturation and performs basic equipment maintenance. - Educates patients and families on respiratory treatments, disease processes, medication use, and equipment, both in hospital and outpatient/home settings. - Ensures adherence to safety and infection control policies; maintains clean, organized, and safe patient care areas. - Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient and facility-related information. - Assists in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation by instructing patients on disease management, peak flows, medication monitoring, and oxygen conservation exercises. - Performs EEG and polysomnography procedures (sleep studies) as required, including electrode placement and data acquisition for physician interpretation. - Cleans, sterilizes, and performs minor repairs on respiratory equipment; participates in training, record-keeping, and other assigned duties. - Works flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
