Location Hybrid - Van Nuys, CA / Remote / U.S. Project Sites Position Data Center Electrical Engineer Reports to VP of Engineering Position Purpose Capstone Green Energy is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer to support the design and deployment of advanced power solutions for hyperscale data centers across the United States. This role focuses on integrating distributed energy resources, including microturbines, into mission"‘critical environments to enhance reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. Key Responsibilities Design and support electrical infrastructure for hyperscale data centers, including medium"‘ and low"‘voltage power distribution systems. Specify and coordinate switchgear, transformers, and grounding systems. Design UPS systems and backup generation architecture. Integrate Capstone microturbine energy systems into data center environments for prime power and backup applications. Design combined heat and power (CHP) configurations. Develop grid"‘support and microgrid solutions. Perform load flow, short"‘circuit, and arc flash analysis. Conduct protection coordination studies. Support all project lifecycle phases: conceptual design, detailed engineering, commissioning, and startup. Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external partners to develop resilient, scalable power architectures. Provide technical support during installation, testing, and troubleshooting. Ensure compliance with U.S. codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA). Interface with hyperscale clients (e.g., cloud providers) and EPC contractors. Assist with microgrid and distributed energy optimization strategies. Maintain technical documentation including single"‘line diagrams and specifications. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. 5-10+ years of experience in data center design, mission"‘critical facilities, or distributed energy / power generation systems. Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and distribution. Experience with backup generation (diesel/gas) and UPS systems. Familiarity with grid interconnection and paralleling systems. Experience with engineering tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, AutoCAD). Familiarity with U.S. electrical codes and standards. Preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience with hyperscale data center operators (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud). Knowledge of microgrids, CHP systems, and distributed energy resources (DERs). Experience integrating low"‘carbon or alternative energy systems. Familiarity with data center redundancy topologies (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1). Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of mission"‘critical uptime requirements. Ability to work in fast"‘paced, large"‘scale project environments. Cross"‘functional collaboration and communication skills. Problem"‘solving mindset with a focus on reliability and innovation. Willingness to travel to U.S. project sites as needed. What Success Looks Like Reliable integration of Capstone microturbine systems into hyperscale data center environments. Accurate, compliant power system studies and electrical designs delivered on schedule. Strong relationships with hyperscale clients and EPC contractor partners. Technical documentation maintained to a high standard across all project phases. Active contribution to Capstone's mission of delivering innovative, low"‘emission energy solutions. Work Environment Hybrid role: office, remote, and on"‘site project work across the U.S. Travel required for commissioning, site assessments, and client meetings. Occasional after"‘hours support during critical project phases. Extended periods of sitting and computer use. Compensation Target Range for this role is between $140,000 - $200,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills, and internal equity considerations.
