Role Overview A Research Associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Charleston Chiang at USC. The Chiang lab utilizes cutting"‘edge analytic tools to address questions at the intersection of human medical and population genetics. The lab focuses on using genomic data to understand the evolution and architecture of complex traits and the history of diverse human populations. The successful candidate will have substantial input in the research projects and will be encouraged to explore projects that fit within the lab's research interests and funded grants. Responsibilities The candidate will have access to large"‘scale genotyping, next"‘generation sequencing, and multi"‘omic data from diverse human populations. In addition, the candidate will assist and oversee multiple ongoing projects in the lab, participate in training and mentoring students, and may work from home as needed. R01: Genetic history, statistical genetics and epidemiology of metabolic traits of Pacific Island populations. Access to newly generated whole genome sequencing data and genome"‘wide array data. R01: Method development for statistical and population genetic applications based on the ancestral recombination graph (see Tang and Chiang, AJHG 2025; Fan et al., Nat Genet 2025). R35: Consequence of natural selection and demography on evolution of human traits, including expanding the framework to other datasets such as Taiwan Biobank. The candidate will also have access to data from the Multiethnic Cohort and major biobanks, including new GWAS, WGS, and metabolomic data. Qualifications A Ph.D. in genetics, computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field is required. The candidate should have experience conducting human genetics or population genetics research in a Unix"‘based computing environment. Minimum experience: 1 year. Minimum field of expertise: Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods. Salary and Benefits The annual base salary range for this position is $70,745.28 - $88,974.71.
