Brief Description Network Engineer III Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid/On-site as required, remote option for the right candidate) Reports to: Manager, Network Services Level: Senior / Individual Contributor with Technical Leadership Job Summary The Network Engineer III is a senior technical leader responsible for the design, reliability, scalability, and evolution of the company's service provider network. This role owns the end-to-end network architecture supporting FTTH access, aggregation, core, and service infrastructure for residential, commercial, and enterprise customers. In addition to day-to-day operational excellence, this engineer provides strategic guidance on future network topologies, technologies, automation, and the responsible application of AI. The role partners closely with Engineering, Construction, NOC, IT, Security, and Product teams to ensure the network is resilient, scalable, and aligned with long-term business objectives. This is a hands"‘on role requiring deep technical expertise, strong ownership, and the ability to mentor and influence others. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to maintain up-to-date technical expertise is critical. Key Responsibilities Network Architecture & Ownership Serve as a technical owner of the service provider network, including access, aggregation, core, and service layers. Design and evolve FTTH network architectures supporting residential, commercial, and enterprise services. Define and maintain network standards, reference architectures, and best practices. Lead technical decisions related to capacity planning, redundancy, resiliency, and performance optimization. Drive IPv4/IPv6 strategy, including dual"‘stack, transition mechanisms, and long"‘term IPv6 adoption. ISP Service Infrastructure Architect, deploy, and operate core ISP services, including: DNS (authoritative and recursive) DHCP CGNAT AAA / subscriber services IPAM Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of all service platforms. Troubleshoot complex, multi"‘layer issues across network, systems, and applications. Automation, Tooling & AI Lead adoption of network automation using APIs, scripting, and configuration management tools. Identify opportunities to reduce manual work through automation in provisioning, monitoring, and incident response. Evaluate and responsibly apply AI/ML"‘driven capabilities (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive capacity, intelligent alerting). Improve observability through metrics, logging, and telemetry. Systems & Virtualization Design and support Linux"‘based server infrastructure supporting network services. Manage and architect Proxmox"‘based virtualization environments for network and service workloads. Ensure backup, recovery, and lifecycle management of virtualized infrastructure. Operations & Reliability Act as an escalation point for high"‘impact incidents and complex outages. Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventative actions. Collaborate with the NOC to improve monitoring, alerting, and runbooks. Participate in maintenance planning and change management. Leadership & Collaboration Mentor junior and mid"‘level network engineers. Provide technical leadership during major projects, including new market builds and network expansions. Partner with PMO, Construction, and IT teams to align network design with delivery and operational readiness. Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non"‘technical stakeholders. Required Qualifications 8+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, with significant experience in service provider or ISP environments. Deep expertise in: Routing & switching (BGP, OSPF/IS"‘IS, MPLS preferred) FTTH / access network architectures Carrier"‘grade NAT (CGNAT) IPv4 and IPv6 (design, deployment, and operations) Strong experience operating DNS, DHCP, and subscriber services at scale. Advanced Linux administration skills. Hands"‘on experience with Proxmox or similar virtualization platforms. Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, APIs). Strong troubleshooting skills across network, systems, and applications. Ability to take ownership and drive work independently in a fast"‘paced environment. Required Education and Certifications Bachelors in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or equivalent related experience. Masters preferred, or equivalent related experience. CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE or equivalent, RHCE or equivalent, ITIL 4.0 or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Experience with large"‘scale FTTH builds and greenfield market deployments. Familiarity with XGS"‘PON architecture and vendor ecosystems. Experience integrating OSS/BSS systems with network infrastructure. Exposure to telemetry"‘driven networking and modern observability stacks. Experience evaluating or implementing AI"‘driven operational tools.
