Summary This position is a hybrid role transitioning between a Patient Care Technician and a Unit Clerk. As a Patient Care Technician, you will provide direct patient care services on a specific unit under the supervision of an RN or Case Manager. Responsibilities include personal care, assisting with selected portions of a care plan such as respiratory services, rehabilitation services, and phlebotomy under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse. As a Unit Clerk, you will coordinate clerical and hospital functions on an assigned patient or technical unit. Duties include receiving admitted patients, initiating patient files, processing doctors' orders, managing discharges, transfers, and expirations, and preparing hospital reports. You will also support staff by assisting with patient scheduling, standard computer inquiries, and routine tasks, while maintaining supply levels for housekeeping, hospitality, and maintenance services. Essential Functions Patient Care Technician Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data at all times. Formulate and implement accurate and timely care. Assist patients with activities of daily living. Take vital signs, weigh patients, and collect routine urine, stool, and sputum specimens. Maintain patient safety and infection control standards. Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and discharges; monitor and restock supplies. Open sterile supplies and set up for procedures. Perform EKGs. Document and report outcomes of patient care activities; chart observations and vital signs in the assigned format. Check equipment, supplies, and accessories regularly; notify personnel of malfunctions. Participate in orientation of new staff and ongoing in"‘service education. Perform finger sticks. Take care of the body after death. Unit Clerk Exhibit excellence in customer service and appropriate interaction with patients, visitors, and staff. Perform receptionist duties: receive, initiate, and direct telephone calls and messages. Assist visitors, staff, and patients with directions and escort services. Participate in quality initiatives. Operate a personal computer, calculator, fax machine, copy machine, scanner, and related office machinery. Receive and dispatch communications via phone, intercom, Vocera, fax, and mail. Handle messages, flowers, newspapers, and other items, and ensure appropriate delivery or return. Facilitate radiological procedures and assist patients and radiology staff. Serve as an instructor to other Unit Clerks; provide orientation and guidance as needed. Process and maintain records of admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths. Order supplies and services as directed. Schedule appointments, surgeries, lab collections, and other procedures; notify patients and departments of changes. Archive and copy image data; transfer images to computer applications. Assist with patient transport and clinical support as needed. Adhere to and support TMCH values and TMC organizational standards. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience: One (1) year of patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting; or no experience if you completed one semester of clinicals in an accredited nursing program, or completed a formal Patient Care Tech (PCT) program, or obtained a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) certification. Licensure or Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications may be required per department. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of patient care protocols and practices. Knowledge of general patient care methods and regulations. Knowledge of patient privacy regulations. Knowledge of appropriate customer service interaction skills (greeting and assisting by phone or in person). Skill in attending to patients with care and attention to needs.
