Hearing Representative - Workers CompensationPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Hearing Representative to join our workers' compensation defense team. The successful candidate will advocate for employer and insurer clients at WCAB hearings, manage claim files from intake through disposition, and work closely with adjusters, defense counsel, and medical providers to achieve favorable outcomes while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent employers and insurance carriers at Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) hearings, trials, and conferences.Prepare and organize hearing files, exhibits, witness lists, and legal briefs in accordance with WCAB rules and deadlines.Conduct pre-hearing investigation, gather and analyze medical records, employment documents, and other evidence to develop case strategy.Interview and prepare witnesses, coordinate with vocational experts and medical providers, and arrange for depositions when necessary.Negotiate settlements and disposition agreements with opposing counsel and claimants, documenting terms and ensuring timely execution.Coordinate with claims adjusters and in-house counsel to assess liability, exposure, and litigation strategy.Monitor and update case management systems, maintain accurate case notes, and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory reporting requirements.Provide clear, timely communication to clients regarding case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.Stay current on developments in workers compensation law, WCAB procedures, and relevant insurance defense strategies to continuously improve representation quality.QualificationsMinimum 3-5 years of direct experience as a Hearing Representative, workers compensation defense attorney, or equivalent role handling WCAB matters.Demonstrated knowledge of California workers' compensation law, WCAB rules, and administrative hearing procedures (or applicable state jurisdiction).Background in insurance defense and claims handling, with experience working closely with adjusters and carriers.Proven litigation and negotiation skills, including experience preparing legal briefs, exhibits, and witness examinations.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal and medical issues to clients and stakeholders.Comfortable managing a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail and meeting strict deadlines.Proficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and standard office productivity tools.Bachelors degree required; law degree (JD) or paralegal certification preferred. Active license to practice or Hearing Representative certification where applicable is a plus.Willingness to travel to hearings as needed, valid drivers license, and reliable transportation.
