Job Description

What You'll Do: As a Researcher 3, you'll lead complex, data‑driven projects that advance access to primary care, dental, and mental health services across Ohio. You'll collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and community stakeholders to analyze statewide indicators, inform shortage area designations, and support programs that bring critical healthcare to underserved populations. Duties include: * Coordinate multi‑stakeholder research initiatives on access, disparities, and workforce needs in primary care, dental, and mental health-partnering with ODH units, other state agencies, consultants, and community organizations. * Use statistical and data visualization tools (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, Tableau) to prepare technical analyses, reports, and dashboards; ensure data quality by resolving missing or inconsistent data. * Analyze statewide indicators for the Statewide Primary Care Needs Assessment; evaluate geographies and populations against Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) criteria to guide recruitment/retention strategies. * Leverage sources such as the Health Professions Data Warehouse, licensure databases, provider surveys, Medicaid claims, and census data to assess shortage areas and quantify need. * Develop and distribute maps and visualizations of shortage areas and clinician placements. * Design and implement research projects addressing access, disparities, workforce, and special populations (e.g., migrant workers, homeless individuals, residents of public housing). * Prepare reports on underserved populations and provider distribution; compile data for grants and contribute to needs assessment sections. * Support updates to the Statewide Rational Service Area Plan; track HPSA/MUA designations. * Serve as a technical resource to federal partners, communities, and the public; participate in state/federal workgroups; deliver trainings and presentations on shortage designation and access needs. Position Qualifications: * 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in planning & conducting research studies using operational, mathematical, analytical &/or statistical research techniques & preparing reports, records &/or technical evaluations related to research conducted. Or * 12 mos. exp. as Researcher 2, 66922. Or * Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above. Additional Qualifications: Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria: * Bachelor's or advanced degree in Statistics or Research related field (e.g., Public Health, Epidemiology) * Experience with computer software (e.g., ArcGIS, Microsoft Office: Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) * Experience working with statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS) * Experience conducting statistical analysis * Experience in writing technical reports using health related data * Experience in working with health programs related to either rural health or healthcare workforce * Experience in developing and delivering presentations * Experience in monitoring & developing program evaluation instruments (e.g., surveys, performance metrics) * Experience in different research methods (e.g., literature reviews, web-based reviews, survey) All eligible applications shall be reviewed considering the following criteria: qualifications, experience, education, and active disciplinary record.
