Title of Position: Assistant Teacher FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Child Care Salary: $20.60 per hour Reports to: Head Teacher Positions Reporting to this Position: None Purpose of the Position: Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the Assistant is responsible for age appropriate activities for children and the implementation of classroom curriculum. Responsibilities: u00b7 Commit to using evidence-based practices (EBP); Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), critical time intervention, and boundary setting, to help clients achieve their goals. u00b7 Participate in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curricula encompassing the social/emotional, physical and intellectual needs of Win children. u00b7 Follow Winu2019s philosophy and goals of the Child Care program. u00b7 Attend program staff meetings, child treatment reviews, case conferences, and supervisory sessions. u00b7 Attend child care related trainings onsite and offsite. u00b7 Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and days that NYC schools are closed. u00b7 Must be able to escort children on field trips. u00b7 Conduct age-appropriate developmental assessments once an assigned child settles in the shelter. u00b7 Ensure a safe, healthy, culturally diverse, and attractive classroom environment. u00b7 Communicate regularly with parents about the needs of their children, parental concerns, and engage parents in classroom activities. u00b7 Perform related duties as assigned. Essential Functions: u00b7 Must be able to ascend /descend stairs in the building where client families reside. u00b7 Must be able to lift children on a regular basis. u00b7 Must be able to travel to other Win sites to provide child care coverage, attend meetings and training using public transportation. Qualifications: u00b7 Commitment to Winu2019s mission, vision, and values. u00b7 Associates degree or Teacheru2019s Assistant Certification required. u00b7 Knowledge and skill relating to planning activities for infants and pre-school children. u00b7 Ability to interact in a supportive and nurturing manner with children and parents. u00b7 Must have knowledge of and have sensitivity to the needs of homeless or at-risk families. u00b7 Must submit to a medical screening to ensure good health as required by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Bureau of Child Care. u00b7 Ability work cooperatively with others. u00b7 Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. u00b7 Bilingual u2013 English/Spanish a plus.
