The intern will mentor and tutorfirst-generation, low-income, college-bound high school students in asix-week summer college-access residential program. In this role, theintern will provide academic support, facilitate group discussions, andoffer personalized mentorship to help students navigate academicchallenges and prepare for college. Responsibilities include assistingwith tutoring, guiding students through skill-building activities, andfostering a positive learning environment. This position offers theopportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives whilegaining valuable experience in education and youth development. Dutiesand Responsibilities 1. Mentor and tutor first-generation, low incomecollege bound high school students in a six-week summer program. 2.Maintain open and proactive communication with professional counselorsof the program. 3. Support academic learning in the classroom,supervised study sessions, and tutoring interactions. 4. Monitor studentprogress and foster student success. 5. Ensure that all students followprogram rules and meet expectations for student conduct. 6. Attend allTC/TA meetings and student/group mandatory meetings to includeperiodical 7. Monitor meal compliance with Federal SFSP guidelines andfollow these guidelines. 8. Attend all cultural and social events,program wide and within the individual cohorts of students to includeattending the week-long college tour at the end of the six weeks of theprogram. 9. Facilitate a personal development class for studentlearning. 10. Contribute talent and interests to program's art classes11. Provide guidance and advice to students about college life or lifeissues, remaining sensitive to students' needs while treating allstudents equally. 12. Living in residence hall during six-week summerprogram monitoring the floors and community spaces and fulfill alladditional and related responsibilities such as (monitor studentsign-in/out, and residential weekend). 13. Comply with all rules andregulations regarding university and pre-college program dormitoryconduct, including visitation regulations, noise prohibitions, andpersonal conduct. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities PreferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be a full-time undergraduate and/orgraduate student seeking a Bachelor's degree or beyond. Possess acumulative grade point average at or higher than a 2.5. Relate experience with student or community groups that address issuesaffecting low-income and minority populations. Ability to tutor studentsin the sciences, math, and English subjects. Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to workindependently and in a team setting. Demonstrated attention to detail,professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.Traveling in and out of state is a component of this job which includeslonger days and lots of walking. Minimal lifting of supplies isrequired.
