You will protect and promote the interests of both Gilbane and the client in all matters as well as demonstrating the personal characteristics of a developing leader.Provides the administration and coordination of activities for the design and construction of the more complex and/or highly visible construction and modernization projects under the guidance of a senior level SCA Project OfficerEnsures quality and high standards of performance and compliance in both design and construction by all consultants, vendors, etc.Makes decisions and takes action in a timely manner to expedite the timely completion of the construction processCorrects mistakes and errors in design and construction before they can be extensively incorporated into the project or as early in the construction process as possibleMakes decisions on phasing and scheduling of projects; prepares and/or ensures preparation of schedules for planning, design, and construction; monitors schedules and takes appropriate actions to ensure that the project is completed on schedule and within approved cost limitationsProvides ongoing interface with contractors, construction managers, local school personnel and Senior Project Officers on project issues; routinely interacts with Senior SCA Managers on such mattersParticipates in the development and issuance of project procedures and policies; reviews and makes recommendations on SCA-wide procedures and policiesProvides guidance and advice to lower level Project OfficersResolves issues and problems raised in field reports made by architects and construction management staffWorks with architect/engineer of record regarding change orders, interpretation of contract documents, shop drawing submittals/approvals and other technical matters as required to ensure a structurally sound, code compliant and aesthetic facilityIssues field memoranda or directives to contractors to enforce contract compliance; advises senior management regarding the necessity for the assessment of liquidated damages and other contractual enforcement mechanisms, including defaultUses independent judgement to make onsite change order decisions and has authority to negotiate with contractors and commits the SCA’s resources on such change ordersReviews contractor claims or disputed work and advises senior management as to appropriate action; compiles contract and project documentation necessary for adjudicating or denying such claimsVisits various job sites as required in the performance of above dutiesCoaches and mentors less experienced team members Supports a positive and inclusive work environmentPerforms other related tasksEXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONShall have a baccalaureate degree in engineering/architecture and/or constructionrelated field from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of full timeexperience as a technical specialist in construction and design related fieldfour (4)years must have been involved in managing all phases of construction work on ascale and scope similar to the Work envisioned under this Agreement; or acomparable combination of education and experienceShall have the ability to understand and interpret contract documents such as specifications, drawings andshop drawings; Shall have experience in new and renovation type construction.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESProficient in Microsoft Office programsStrong technical and communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needsAbility to work in a team environmentAbility to collaborate on a daily basis with project teamProven capability to establish specific, measurable, attainable performance goals and holds others accountable for achieving themUnderstanding of contract documents and specificationsSalary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.For (New York City) this ranges from $125,000-$135,000 plus benefits and retirement program.Gilbane offers an excellent total compensation package which includes competitive health and welfare benefits and a generous profit-sharing/401k plan.
