Summary This position is located in Independence National Historical Park, in the Facility Management Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of journey-level electrical work needed to install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and/or load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, operational checks, repairs, and modifications on all electrical systems, generators, and fire suppression systems park-wide. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain meters, load centers, circuit breakers, controls, lighting, outlets, disconnects, solenoids, relays, and fixtures. Plan and route wiring, selecting appropriate type and size, and test and balance electrical loads. Locate and inspect distribution panels, boxes, circuits, transformers, and other electrical devices. Interpret and work from plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, repair manuals, and applicable codes. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Physical Demands: This position is required to perform electrical work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and other cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the incumbent to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may be exposed to electrical shock, spark and arc hazard, and other health hazards. If the incumbent is assigned to perform electrical work in remote locations, the incumbent may be required to walk, hike, or drive over rough and uneven terrain. The incumbent is expected to lift and/or carry items up to 50 pounds and occasionally exceed 50 pounds in weight. Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors. Work outside may be subject to extreme weather conditions, with wind, rain, snow, and ice, in temperatures ranging from below 0 to over 100 degrees. Depending on the geography of the park unit assigned, work may take place at elevations ranging from sea level up to 10,000 feet. The incumbent may be regularly exposed to dust, fogs, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, and vapors, as well as noise, vibration, cuts, and abrasions from the use of electrical tools and equipment and may occasionally be exposed to hazardous materials that can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and burns, as well as microbiological organisms and potentially hazardous wildlife. The incumbent is expected to comply with all safety and occupational health requirements and wear protective clothing, gloves, face shields, and in some cases a respirator that may be uncomfortable.
