Newsweek Recognizes Sedgwick as Americau2019s Greatest Workplaces National Top Companies Certified as a Great Place to Worku00ae Fortune Best Workplaces in Financial Services & Insurance Field Adjuster _5+ years of c_ _ontinuous property insurance adjusting experience involving complex loss valuation and scope analysis (homeowners & commercial property._ PRIMARY PURPOSE : Appraisal Assignment Execution u2022 Review claim files assigned to appraisal to understand the dispute parameters and valuation issues in scope. u2022 Perform loss inspections as necessary to evaluate disputed damages, including measurements, photo documentation, and condition assessments. u2022 Develop an independent scope of repairs and valuation reflecting the companyu2019s appraisal position. u2022 Analyze differences between competing scopes and estimates to identify legitimate valuation variances. Appraisal Process Participation u2022 Act as the companyu2019s appointed appraiser in accordance with the policy appraisal clause. u2022 Exchange estimates, documentation, and supporting materials with the opposing appraiser. u2022 Engage in professional appraiser-to-appraiser discussions to narrow scope and pricing differences when possible. u2022 Participate in appraisal proceedings leading up to and including umpire involvement, as required. Technical Analysis & Valuation Support u2022 Evaluate disputed repair methodologies, quantities, pricing, and code-related considerations. u2022 Review contractor estimates, expert reports, and supporting documentation for valuation relevance. u2022 Assess causation, scope, and pricing issues strictly within the confines of appraisal-eligible valuation matters. u2022 Provide clear rationale supporting the companyu2019s appraisal position. Documentation & File Support u2022 Prepare appraisal-related summaries, estimates, and supporting documentation suitable for appraisal review. u2022 Document inspection findings, valuation rationale, and appraisal activity in the claim system. u2022 Support post-appraisal file handling through clear documentation of appraisal outcomes and awarded values. Communication & Coordination u2022 Communicate professionally with opposing appraisers, umpires, internal claim partners, and other involved stakeholders. u2022 Provide appraisal status updates and valuation insights to internal teams as needed. u2022 Escalate non-valuation or coverage-related concerns to appropriate claim or legal resources without expanding appraisal scope. Experience & Technical Expertise u2022 _5+ years of continuous property insurance adjusting experience_ involving complex loss valuation and scope analysis (homeowners & commercial property). u2022 Preferred to have demonstrated experience handling claims that involve Appraisal Under the Policy or other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, but willing to train candidates with strong adjusting and estimating backgrounds who demonstrate aptitude for complex valuation disputes. u2022 Strong working knowledge of Xactimate. u2022 Familiarity with building construction, repair methodologies, and practical application of local code compliance requirements. u2022 Experience working with independent adjusters, contractors, engineers, and consultants. Skills & Competencies u2022 Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills, especially in complex scope disputes. u2022 Strong negotiation skills and the ability to support fair and defensible appraisal outcomes. u2022 Exceptional written and verbal communication. u2022 Ability to remain calm, professional, and impartial in adversarial or high-stress situations. u2022 Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple appraisal files simultaneously. Regulatory & Educational Requirements u2022 Active state adjuster license(s). If in Louisiana or Iowa, a specific appraisal license is required. u2022 Knowledge of state-specific appraisal laws, claim handling regulations, and policy application standards related to valuation and appraisal procedures. Professional Certifications (Preferred but Not Required) u2022 AIC, CPCU, PTC, or similar property insurance credentials u2022 Xactimate Level 2 or 3 Certification u2022 Building/Restoration certifications (IICRC, HAAG, etc.) beneficial u2022 Comparable experience or certifications demonstrating equivalent expertise will be considered ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES + Examines insurance policies and other records to determine insurance coverage. + Interviews, telephones, and/or corresponds with claimant and witnesses regarding claim. + Consults police and hospital records and inspects property damage to determine extent of company's liability and varying methods of investigation according to type of insurance. + Estimates cost of repair, replacement, or compensation. + Prepares report of findings and negotiates settlement with claimant. + Recommends litigation by legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated. + Attends litigation hearings. + Revises case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs. + Assists in preparing loss experience report to help determine profitability and calculates adequate future rates. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES + Performs other duties as assigned. + Supports the organization's quality program(s). + Travels as required. QUALIFICATIONS Education & Licensing Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Obtain IIA-AIC designation within 12 to 18 months. Appropriate state adjuster license is required.
