Certified/Registered Medical Assistant Job Description The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting physicians within an office setting. This position involves greeting patients, preparing them for examinations, and recording essential medical information. Responsibilities + Greet and escort patients to exam rooms. + Utilize rooming standards to prepare exam rooms accordingly. + Interview patients and measure vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, recording this information on patients' charts. + Instruct patients on preparation for tests and procedures. + Record laboratory, x-ray, ECG results, and other pertinent medical data in patients' charts. + Handle incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring the physician receives all necessary information. + Clean and stock exam rooms, including monthly instrument cleaning, sterilization of instruments, and refilling of supplies as necessary. + Manage patient telephone calls as directed by the Triage Nurse. + Screen patient telephone calls to the physician and relay advice, information, and instructions from the physician. + Call in prescriptions and refills to pharmacies under physician direction. + Schedule special appointments such as referrals, surgeries, x-rays, and lab tests. + Assess and schedule appointments for patients. + Communicate with callers, patients, physicians, and other staff in a polite and courteous manner, projecting a commitment to high-quality customer service. + Abstract medical information on patients into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Essential Skills + Certification as a Medical Assistant is required and must be active, with completion of a program that includes clinical hands-on training. (RMA also acceptable) + 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic setting within Primary Care or Internal Medicine required. + Experience with EPIC required. Work Environment The work schedule consists of a 4-day work week, with hours varying depending on the doctor or if in a float position. Work hours range between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., totaling 36 to 40 hours per week for full-time Medical Assistants and less for those working a 3-day week. This role does not require weekend or holiday shifts, within a large local clinic housing 31 providers, including 6 mid-level practitioners, covering family practice and internal medicine. The clinic also has a lab and radiology department. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Appleton, WI.
