Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) + Inspects damaged automotive vehicles and equipment for dents and breaks; + Files, grinds, or sands metal surfaces; welds metal using standard and inert gas (MIG) welding equipment; + Shrinks fenders and other parts to repair stretched metal; + Straightens grills, door panels, hoods, truck cabs, and bodies; + Repairs and installs windows, power locks, lights, and mirrors; + Fabricates, modifies, and installs new and existing vehicle interiors, parts, and other components to meet each customeru2019s needs; + Re-keys locks and repairs or replaces door latches, window regulators, mirrors, and power accessories; + Makes repairs to the fiberglass on vehicle and equipment parts and properly salvages parts; + Checks and realigns frames; + Removes, straightens, installs, and resets door, window, and trunk chrome stripping and molding; + Sands, putties, applies primer coat, and paints, buffs, and details repaired surfaces of automobile and automotive equipment bodies and heavy and industrial equipment, using a spray gun or other painting equipment; + Applies or removes City decals to and from vehicles; + Removes and replaces non-bonded glass, door panels, hoods, truck cabs, and bodies. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of experience in automotive body repair, frame repair, or automotive painting. Substitution(s): A certificate of completion of a vocational program for automotive body mechanic training can be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Possession of a validdriveru2019s license. Test/Job Contact Information The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 40% covering information ordering, problem sensitivity, safety, and automotive body repair; and a training and experience evaluation weighted 60%. The exam is expected to be administered in May. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
