The Manager of Veterans Affairs and Student Development Initiatives provides overall leadership, direction, and daily management of the Veterans Resource Center at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Manager oversees all aspects of veteransu2019 affairs services and serves as the primary point of contact for student veterans. In addition to veteransu2019 services, the Manager works closely with the Office of Student Activities to support broader Student Affairs initiatives, including the delivery of student leadership training and other programs for the general student population. The Manager collaborates with campus partners, including Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Testing, Academic Advising, Bursar, Counseling, Health Services, and the Office of Accessibility, to assist veterans, active-duty service members, Reservists/National Guard members, and military dependents with application, orientation, academic advisement, enrollment, registration, and VA/GI Bill certification. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: -Oversee, manage, and monitor all aspects of the Veterans Resource Center (VRC), including daily operations, policies and procedures, budget, and the flow of direct services provided by VRC. -Oversee enrollment certification and monitor academic progress for students utilizing U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits to ensure full compliance with VA rules and regulations. -Develop and implement effective communication, outreach, and programmatic initiatives to engage and support student veterans. -Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate part-time staff and serve as Task Supervisor for graduate social work interns. -Ensure compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs, government and financial aid policies and procedures, and all applicable federal and state regulations. -Ensure program compliance with the Principles of Excellence, VAu2019s Eight Keys to Veteran Success, and recommendations from the CUNY Task Force on Veteran Services. -Serve as advisor to the Student Veterans Organization and mentor to student veterans and a liaison for veteransu2019 services across the campus community. -Collaborate with the Office of Student Activities to support selected Student Affairs initiatives, including coordinating student leadership training and co-curricular programs for the broader student population. -Research, extract, and analyze data from institutional databases to assess services and develop strategies that support student success. -Support major college events such as commencement, orientation, registration, and honors convocation. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and six years related experience required. Preferred Qualifications: -Master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, or a related field and four (4) years of administrative and supervisory experience preferred. -Prior military service or experience working closely with current or former, active-duty service members, Reservists/National Guard members, or military dependents is preferred. -Familiarity with current higher education practices, theories, research, and policies. -Proven experience developing student activities, leadership, and service programs for a diverse student population. -Demonstrated success in college-wide collaborations. -Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships. -Ability to provide courteous and accurate service to students, visitors, and the campus community. -Highly organized and detail oriented. -Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. -Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media, learning platforms, and other related technologies preferred.
