Job Description

United Community is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant - Accounting Operations to support daily and monthly accounting functions within the Accounting Operations department. This role is primarily responsible for balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger accounting entries, and a wide variety of operational accounting activities that support the Bank’s financial accuracy and compliance. The Staff Accountant works independently under time-sensitive deadlines and partners closely with internal teams to ensure financial integrity and operational efficiency.Assist with accounting for lease payments received, including maintaining, tracking, and reconciling lease payments for all United Community Bank-owned properties that are leased, and tracking lease increases or changes per agreementsAssist with daily reconciliations of all Cash Vault activity, including but not limited to Brinks, Loomis, and ATM ResponsePerform General Ledger account reconciliations and Internal DDA account reconciliations as assignedResearch and assist with clearing reconciling items from assigned accountsMaintain appropriate system policies, procedures, and SOX documentation for areas of responsibilityServe as the subject matter expert for all property tax inquiries and payments, including invoice coding and submission to Accounts Payable or NavitasAct as point of contact for all General Ledger non-post transactionsHandle all annual survey filings and assist with FR2900 weekly filingsReview United Community Insurance Services DDA account activity and post entries as necessaryAssist with month-end and/or quarter-end closing journal entriesAssist with CDARS and ICS activityReview Cash Advance DDA and General Ledger accounts and post entries as necessaryMaintain and process monthly recurring batchesPartner with the Financial Systems team to help streamline and improve accounting tasksPerform financial analysis when requestedCross-train on other Accounting Operations tasks to provide coverage and backup supportAssist the Accounting Operations Manager or designee with audit research and auditor requestsProvide support to others within the Accounting department as assignedParticipate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering training, and required internal or external training programsHigh School Diploma or equivalent required; College Degree preferredMinimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting or financial environmentStrong math skills with a foundational understanding of accounting principles and functionsProficiency in Microsoft Excel and WordStrong verbal and written communication skillsHigh level of attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently and meet strict, time-sensitive deadlinesMust be able to pass a background and credit check.This is a full-time, non-remote position.FLSA: Non-ExemptReady to take your career to the next level?
