Now Hiring: Part-Time Nursing Assistant - 6 South (UPMC Hamot) UPMC Hamot is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Part-Time Nursing Assistant to join our 6 South team. In this role, you will provide essential patient care under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate care. Schedule: This position requires availability for rotating day and night shifts. About 6 South - Cardiovascular, Renal Transplant & Surgical Specialty Acute Care Unit 6 South is a 43-bed Medical/Surgical unit providing specialized post-operative care for adult Cardiothoracic, Vascular, and Gastric Bypass/Weight Loss patients. The unit also supports patients requiring telemetry or oxygen monitoring and delivers comprehensive care for kidney transplant donors and recipients, including post-transplant patients. Additional services and treatments include: + CPAP, BIPAP, and Optiflow oxygen therapy + Glycemic control management + Vasoactive and anti-arrhythmic medications + Electrolyte replacement + Hemodynamic medication administration Responsibilities: a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } + Provides direct patient care as directed by the RN, including activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning patients. + Performs UPMC nursing core responsibilities for Nursing Assistants, including point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), weights, vital signs, intake and output (I&O), telemetry monitor application/reapplication, urine specimen collection, Foley care, restraint placement and removal per protocol, Hospital-Acquired Condition (HAC) and patient safety indicator prevention, and Ticket to Ride (intra-hospital transportation). + Maintains an environment conducive to patient safety and recovery by completing safety checks; keeping patient rooms, hallways, and department areas clean and organized; changing bed linens; emptying linen hampers; cleaning unit-specific equipment; and ensuring safe storage and return of equipment. + Acquires, distributes, stocks, and sets up supplies and equipment within the scope of the Nursing Assistant role, including performing messenger functions and ordering or charging/crediting supplies. + Delivers patient nourishments, fills water pitchers, distributes patient mail, passes meal trays, responds to call lights and telephones, and assists with universal unit activities. + Documents patient care activities in the medical record according to established procedures and completes clerical functions as needed. + Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and promptly reports changes in patient condition. + May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per physician order or hospital protocol and provides diversional activities to reduce or prevent restraint use. + Provides one-to-one patient companionship and supervision as required. + Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department. + Demonstrates clear, effective, professional, and respectful communication with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team. + Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions. + Supports workplace safety, complies with all safety policies and procedures (including standard precautions and bloodborne pathogen protocols), and adheres strictly to policies regarding patient care and confidential hospital information. + Responds appropriately to emergent situations within the scope of the Nursing Assistant role. + Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director or direct leader, constructively receives feedback, participates in self-review, and takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance. + Requests assistance with planning and prioritizing tasks as needed and maintains accountability, motivation, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues. + Suggests and supports positive changes within the department and demonstrates awareness of how individual behavior impacts unit efficiency. + Access to medications is limited to transporting or delivering medications to the licensed nurse. + High school diploma or GED. + Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training programKnowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. + Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred. + Work permit required if under 18 years of age.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
