Job Title: Diesel Bus Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered buses and related systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will work with diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, and other critical components, using your mechanical expertise to keep a fleet in top working condition. Responsibilities + Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines and related components on buses and trucks. + Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, and system checks. + Troubleshoot and repair transmission issues to ensure smooth and reliable vehicle operation. + Maintain, adjust, and repair air brake systems, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards. + Service and repair hydraulic systems and components used in bus operations. + Work with pneumatic systems, including diagnosis and repair of air-related components. + Perform general engine work, including testing, tuning, and component replacement as needed. + Use diagnostic tools and technical manuals to identify mechanical and electrical issues accurately. + Document all maintenance and repair work performed in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. + Follow established safety procedures and guidelines while working on vehicles and equipment. + Collaborate with other technicians and team members to prioritize work and ensure timely completion of repairs. + Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the shop at all times. Essential Skills + 2u20134 years of experience as a diesel or automotive mechanic. + Hands-on experience with diesel engines and diesel maintenance. + Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing transmissions on buses or trucks. + Working knowledge of air brake systems and their maintenance. + Experience with hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair. + Ability to work with pneumatic systems on heavy vehicles. + Familiarity with bus or truck engine components and systems. + Capability to perform accurate mechanical diagnostics using appropriate tools. + Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. + Ability to read and follow technical manuals and repair procedures. + Valid driveru2019s license and ability to obtain a CDL Class B (training provided). Additional Skills & Qualifications + Background as a diesel mechanic or auto mechanic. + A/C system experience and the ability to service and repair vehicle air conditioning. + Air-brakes experience beyond basic familiarity is considered a plus. + ASE certifications, particularly in School Bus Series, are highly valued. + Willingness to complete ASE testing and maintain certifications. + Commitment to ongoing training and professional development. + Strong attention to detail and focus on safety and reliability. Compensation is structured as an hourly wage rather than flat rate, with defined technician levels. Training and testing for ASE certifications and CDL Class B are provided and paid for by the company, supporting a structured, growth-oriented environment. Standard shop attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are expected to ensure safety while working around heavy equipment and machinery.
