Location: New York, NY Category: System Administration Posted On: Fri Apr 10 2026 Job Description: Job Title: New York Public Library Internship - Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) Intern Office/Location: Bronx, New York Job Summary: SUNY is partnering with the New York Public Library to provide currently enrolled SUNY students an internship opportunity in New York City to gain skills and hands-on experience this summer. The internship will run from June through August. Intern may be scheduled for up to 35 hours a week based on the operational needs. Intern will have the opportunity to work with the New York Public Library's Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) Department. Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the library's direct service provider of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and adult literacy instruction. Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking, and listening from 0 to 8th grade in in-person and online classes. Job Duties: + Reporting to the Adult Learning Center Hub Manager, the Student Intern will work as part of the intake team that welcomes, orients, and supports the assessment and registration of new students into the program. + Interns will help respond to general patron inquiries about the program and assist with calling absent students while accurately updating student files. + Interns will also assist with administrative support and complete general office duties as assigned. Preference is given to bilingual applicants (Spanish, French, or Arabic preferred) + Gain insight into how the AELL Department contributes to the library's overall mission ( and operations. Job Requirements: Required Education/Qualifications: + Must be a student currently enrolled at a participating SUNY campus + Candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, motivated and possess outstanding communication and organizational skills. The compensation for this role will be $22.00 an hour.
