Description: BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN Department of Family and Support Services Finance Division (Senior Services Portfolio) Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: 57,000 This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the Cityu2019s collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) u2013 BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 04/27/2026 Under supervision, performs paraprofessional accounting and auditing duties; and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES: u00b7 Posts transactions involving cash receipts, disbursements, and/or accounts payable and accounts receivable to ledgers. u00b7 Posts journal entries and verifies the availability of funds. u00b7 Reviews program contracts, budgets and budget amendments, and revisions for conformance to federal, state, and local government accounting requirements. u00b7 Prepares trial balances or periodic summary statements to verify the equality of debits and credits or to determine account balances. u00b7 Audits vouchers submitted for reimbursement by examining contracts, budgets, balance sheets and other documents to determine if costs are allowable. u00b7 Verifies computations on voucher extensions and waivers to contract provisions. u00b7 Interprets contract provisions in order to identify allowable and non-allowable expenditures. u00b7 Calculates totals and determines the appropriateness of supporting documentation. u00b7 Resolves problems regarding budget limitations, allocations, or modifications and prepares necessary documentation. u00b7 Provides technical assistance on the preparation of documents for reimbursement to contractors, subcontractors or other agencies. u00b7 Maintains control ledgers, prepares routine financial reports and approves vouchers for payment. u00b7 May assist in preparing departmental program and operating budgets. _Additional duties may be required for this position_ Location: Department of Family and Support Services Address: 1615 W. Chicago Ave, Chicago IL 60622 Shift: Mon u2014 Fri, 9:00am u2014 5:00pm THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of paraprofessional accounting or auditing experience. Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are acceptable: u00b7 Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associateu2019s degree or higher in Accounting. u00b7 Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associateu2019s degree or higher, plus 15 semester hours in Accounting. Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications: N/A SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral parts of the interview will be selected.
