Controller (Startup Environment)Position Overview The company is seeking an experienced and detailu2011oriented Controller to oversee all accounting operations and ensure full compliance with US GAAP. This role will be responsible for financial reporting, operational accounting, internal controls, system improvements, and supporting the organizationu2019s domestic and international growth. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise, strong operational judgment, and a proven ability to build scalable processes in a fastu2011paced environment. Key Responsibilities:Accounting Operations + Oversee dayu2011tou2011day accounting activities, including monthu2011end, quarteru2011end, and yearu2011end close processes. + Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, revenue recognition, fixed assets, and cash management. + Ensure accurate reconciliation across all revenue lines and commission reporting. Financial Reporting & Compliance + Produce timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. + Monitor changes in accounting standards and implement updates as needed. + Oversee all regulatory and tax compliance requirements at the federal, state, and local levels, with support from external advisors. Internal Controls & Process Improvement + Maintain and enhance accounting workflows, policies, and internal controls to ensure scalability, accuracy, and audit readiness. + Develop a roadmap to strengthen financial systems, streamline processes, and improve reporting quality. + Lead the evaluation and implementation of accounting software enhancements, including opportunities to leverage AI and automation tools. Audit & Equity Management + Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and manage the annual audit process from planning through completion. + Oversee equity accounting, including cap table maintenance and documentation, in coordination with Legal and the CFO. Strategic & Crossu2011Functional Support + Assist the CFO in treasury management, banking relationships, and investoru2011related financial processes. + Provide financial guidance on international expansion, including legal entity setup, reporting frameworks, and regulatory compliance. Required Qualifications + 8u201312 years of progressive accounting and finance experience. + Active CPA certification. + Demonstrated experience building or improving an accounting function within a growing organization. + Expertise in accounting operations, GAAP compliance, audit preparation, equity accounting, and financial controls. + Strong communication skills and a high level of ownership. Preferred Qualifications + Experience in digital media, SaaS, or highu2011growth consumer businesses. + Background as a Director of Finance or Senior Accounting Manager within a VCu2011 or PEu2011backed company with $50M+ in revenue. + Experience with complex close processes and designing auditu2011ready controls. + Familiarity with Sage Intacct or comparable ERP systems. Work Environment This role follows a hybrid schedule, with four days per week in the office and one remote day on Fridays. The position provides the opportunity to support a rapidly expanding digital media organization and contribute to the development of global accounting infrastructure. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $240000.00 - $265000.00/yr.
