Job Description The Nursing Assistant is an individual who functions in a support role to the Registered Professional Nurse by providing direct patient care and related activities as assigned. Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSH Responsibilities Clinical Practice u25cf Assists the nursing staff in performing selected nursing procedures, treatments, and functional tasks to specific patients including vital signs: Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Blood Pressure and Pain Rating. u25cf Performs procedures associated with activities of daily living, ambulation, mobility, and personal hygiene of the patient. u25cf Observes, reports, and records routine and specific patient data, behaviors and responses to treatment on the appropriate flow sheet/EMR. u25cf Reports pertinent information and observations regarding patients to the registered nurse u25cf Performs procedures related to assuring a safe environment for patients, staff and others. u25cf Performs procedures associated with the admission, transfer and discharge of patients. u25cf Performs procedures associated with the maintenance of food and fluid intake. u25cf Documents Intake and Output in the Electronic Medical Record. u25cf Performs procedures associated with excretion of body waste and or loss of fluid. u25cf Provides for safe and comfortable lifting, positioning and ambulation of patients in accordance with the principles of good body mechanics. Utilizes mechanical devises as necessary u25cf Performs simple applications of heat and cold. u25cf Provides care to the body of deceased patients in preparation for removal to the morgue. Provides support to the family/significant others. Secures property. u25cf Obtains, assembles and maintains equipment for use during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. u25cf Assists members of the health care team with physical exam and other procedures. u25cf Conducts purposeful hourly care checks/rounding for assigned patients noting: Pain, Position, Proactive Toileting and Possessions u25cf Participates in the patient belonging process, including reporting of valuables to the RN and documenting accordingly. u25cf Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed, and escorts ambulatory patients. u25cf Performs errands away from the area of assignment to implement the care of patients Including transporting stat specimens and/or obtaining supplies as necessary. u25cf Maintains a clean uncluttered and tidy environment. u25cf Maintains equipment and cleans as necessary.
