Job Description

The School of Marketing in the College of Business & Economic Development at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants to apply for a nine-month position of Instructor of Marketing beginning in August 2026. This position is for the Hattiesburg campus and will support our growing face-to-face and online Marketing degrees, minors, and certificates.Primary Duties and Responsibilities Teach four courses per semester (or equivalent) to be determined by the Director of the School. The successful candidate's teaching obligations will support the Marketing BSBA degree, minors, and certificate programs.Primary teaching responsibilities will support the Marketing BSBA butmay also include support of related programs.The desired candidate will be willing and able to teach various Marketing courses, such as Principles of Marketing, Creative Marketing, Marketing Analytics, and others as needed.Participate in service at the school, college and university levels.Faculty are expected to maintain quality teaching (both online and in-person).Faculty are expected to work well in a team environment and participate in School events and functions.Additional responsibilitiesmay include mentoring undergraduate students, recruitment, and other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsA minimum of a master's degree in business, marketing, or a related field is required by the start of the appointment.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to articulate concepts and instructions effectively to students.Capacity to build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues.Skilled in managing course materials, time, and administrative tasks like grading and answering emails.Familiarity with standard software for communication and online learning platforms.Preferred QualificationsCandidates who demonstrate the following are preferred:Marketing industry experience preferred.Doctorate Degree in Marketing or a closely related field or 18 hours of graduate credit hours in Marketing.Experience in developing and delivering face-to-face and online instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level, depending on degree earned.Desire and willingness to build connections with diverse student populations and establish relationships with community business partners.A desire to engage in recruitment and retention of students.The drive to participate in and support a collaborative working environment.A commitment to high impact practices and the ability to teach a variety of courses, such as Principles of Marketing, Creative Marketing, Marketing Analytics.Relevant teaching experience/interests and demonstrated effective project-focused applied teaching experience.Emphasis is also on candidates who can connect with and relate to our students and challenge them to become effective problem solvers according to the School of Marketing's mission/vision.The Mission of the Marketing Program:Our faculty maintains active research records and connections with business leaders. We prepare our students to be successful marketing professionals by (a) challenging them to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective problem-solvers, and (b) requiring them to apply their knowledge and skills on client-based projects to gain real-world experience.
