At Versiti, we are passionate about improving the lives of patients and helping our healthcare partners thrive.Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Tissue Recovery Specialist (TRS) is responsible for the surgical recovery and acquisition of tissue from donors from referring agencies.BenefitsVersiti provides a comprehensive benefits package based on your job classification. Full-time regular employes are eligible for Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO) and Holidays, Short- and Long-term disability, life insurance, 7% match dollar for dollar 401(k), voluntary programs, discount programs, others.Surgical recovery of tissue from donors in hospital operating rooms, Medical Examiner/Coroner offices, and funeral homes.Acquires donated placentas and umbilical cords for transplant and research following Versiti Organ and Tissue procedures and protocols.Coordinates maintenance and cleaning of instruments and equipment to ensure appropriate quality assurance standards are met.Maintains inventory of supplies essential for recovery and acquisition of tissue.Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with hospital, Medical Examiner/Coroner, and funeral home staff to maximize donation opportunities and promote organ and tissue donation awareness.May precept new TRS staff in conjunction with primary preceptor.Coordinates and/or participates in various donation related community activities/events as assigned.Maintains competence through attendance at mandatory and other job-related educational opportunities.Actively participates in Lean and continuous improvement activities.Follows applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures that impact specific job responsibilities and functions and performs assigned job functions in accordance with them to include those set forth by AATB (American Association of Tissue Banks), FDA (Food and Drug Administration), AORN (The Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations).Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classificationUnderstands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirementsComplies with all standard operating policies and proceduresEducationBachelor's Degree degree from an accredited college or university in a related healthcare field requiredAssociates degree in related healthcare field plus an additional 3-5yrs experience may be substituted for the degree with the approval of Tissue Bank Management and Human Resources in lieu of required degreeSurgical Technologist, Surgical Assistant, Circulating Nurse or similar certification may be substituted for the degree with the approval of Tissue Bank Management and Human Resources in lieu of required degreeExperience1-3 years of operating room and/or patient care experience as a Surgical Technologist, Surgical Assistant, Circulating Nurse or similar position preferredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office and the internet for data entry and retrieval of information. requiredStrong attention to detail and ensures accuracy in completing paperwork. requiredAbility to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task in challenging and stressful situations, and utilizing conflict management. requiredExcellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and rapport-building skills including the ability to listen actively and respond with empathy, tact, and sensitivity. requiredAbility to apply judgment and fact finding to solve problems. requiredFamiliarity with sterile technique and venipuncture skills preferred requiredKnowledge of basic medical terminology, medications, disease processes and human anatomy. requiredValid Wisconsin Driver’s License and access to a vehicle requiredLicenses and CertificationsAmerican Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) certification within 3 years of hire preferred
