Job Description

Summary Multi-skilled Maintenance Mechanic for the Engineering Service performing independent, full-scope trades work across masonry, welding, carpentry, locksmithing, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and more. Serves as sole on-site expert, planning and executing repairs, interpreting plans, and ensuring compliance with codes. Works with minimal supervision in complex, often hazardous environments requiring high skill, judgment, and physical effort. Responsibilities Carpentry: repair/modify doors, windows, frames, furniture, cabinetry, walls, flooring, hardware, locks, roofing, fire doors, and fire wall systems. Masonry: install/repair/alter/replace components including shower pans, concrete, tile (ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, quarry), walls, steps, sidewalks, curbs, roads, parking; construct/finish concrete; repair brick/block/stone; fill masonry units with insulation/fire caulking. Locksmith: install, maintain, adjust, and repair door/security systems including panic devices, alarms, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and mechanical operators, closers, and controls. Painting: finish/refinish interior and exterior surfaces (sheetrock, plaster, concrete, metal, cloth, wood, brick); finish wallboard; tape/float seams; prep and apply coatings. Plumbing/electrical/equipment: install, maintain, modify, repair plumbing systems; maintain kitchen/laundry and non-patient equipment; perform electrical work on fixtures, breakers, panels, and distribution lines. Plan/layout work; estimate materials/time; develop efficient, practical, economical methods using multi-system knowledge. Perform work to accepted trade standards. Maintain clean, safe work areas; remove debris; properly store tools/materials; leave areas ready for housekeeping. Secure tools, equipment, chemicals, and materials to eliminate risk to patients, staff, and public. Manage work orders; track time, materials, costs; record usage in systems daily. Maintain documentation of inspections, repairs, and equipment histories. Use broad range of trade tools; apply diagnostics/testing to building systems and electrical circuits; maintain proficiency with specialized tools. Provide technical support to remote sites; work with minimal oversight; subject to supervisory review for standards, timelines, and customer expectations. Select methods, techniques, materials, and devices to achieve required results and customer satisfaction. Follow safety and infection control practices; use containment and barricades to protect patients and public. Independently apply advanced trade methods, tools, and materials appropriate to each job. Identify and work safely around hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos, lead). Use advanced tools and equipment across trades with expert proficiency. Perform complex measurements/calculations to ensure structural integrity, fit, finish, and code compliance. Determine appropriate material type, grade, and size for each job. Maintain tools and ensure proper operation during complex work.
