Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our non-profit organization in New York, New York. In this long-term contract position, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring smooth accounting operations, and supporting the organization's mission. Responsibilities: u2022 Prepare and post accounting entries from the billing system to maintain accurate financial records. u2022 Reconcile accounts receivable subledgers to ensure the integrity of financial data. u2022 Record cash receipts and manage payment processing efficiently. u2022 Conduct regular reviews of accounting data to identify and resolve discrepancies. u2022 Collaborate with team members on improving overall financial processes and reporting. u2022 Support month-end and year-end closing procedures to ensure timely financial reporting. u2022 Maintain compliance with organizational policies and accounting standards. u2022 Assist with audits by providing accurate financial documentation and explanations. u2022 Generate reports and summaries to support decision-making processes. u2022 Communicate effectively with other departments to address financial inquiries or concerns. Requirements u2022 Proven experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit organization. u2022 Proficiency in numeric data entry with exceptional attention to detail. u2022 Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis. u2022 Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices. u2022 Ability to reconcile accounts and identify discrepancies effectively. u2022 Excellent organizational and time management skills. u2022 Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and other departments. u2022 Experience with accounting software or systems is preferred.
