About the Role The New York Times is looking for a Program Manager II for its Platforms & Growth portfolio. Platforms exist to provide the power and efficiency of the enterprise, empowering product and feature teams to build and iterate quickly. Our products are used by millions of passionate and engaged users every day and our strategy of providing journalism worth paying for has helped us grow our digital subscription and advertising businesses at the same time. As a Program Manager II, you will manage the lifecycle of key initiatives . Program managers are core to the delivery of our work and are expected to identify issues, suggest and guide solutions, and help negotiate scope or timelines to advance the work. You will orchestrate this by working with partners and software development teams in different ways, from developing a delivery plan, identifying initiative milestones, managing cross-team dependencies and establishing operating models for initiatives . Responsibilities: + Initiative Leadership - Work with your partners to guide multiple types of software development initiatives from creation through completion. Identify issues between competing interests to create understanding on priority, scope and realistic timelines. + Collaboration - Guide the teams and important partners to navigate challenges on the road to delivery. Influence teams through servant-leadership. + Visibility - Ensure shared understanding of initiative goals and success criteria across the entirety of teams/partners involved in the program. Communicate and guide a free flow of information with and among partners on all matters. + Transparency - Track and communicate initiative status, risks, and emergent issues. Organize complicated information so that it is accessible to varying partners and can be kept current with minimal overhead. + Communication - Effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences and tailor messaging for various stakeholders . + Impediment Removal - Seek out, track and escalate impediments to the teams' throughput and barriers to program completion. + Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence ( and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. + This role reports to a a Director of Program Management in the PMO. Basic Qualifications: + 5+ years experience in program management + 3+ years experience in running digital/software development programs + Effective communication of strategies, goals, and program status to on-the-ground teams, technical and non-technical partners, and senior leadership, demonstrating clear understanding + Experience with software development practices and knowledge of Jira, Google Workspace, and other project management tools + Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences Preferred Qualifications: + Demonstrated ability to configure and incorporate generative AI tools, AI-powered agents, and automations into day-to-day program management workflows to enhance efficiency while maintaining human oversight and judgment + Comfort evaluating and piloting emerging AI capabilities in partnership with engineering, data, and newsroom stakeholders , ensuring responsible use aligned with The Times's mission and values #LI-Hybrid REQ- 019982 The annual base pay range for this role is between: $123,000 u2014 $161,000 USD For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
