Job Description The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The Medical Division oversees the health and well-being of all members of the service. The Division provides general medical services and assessments for uniformed members of the service. All medical, psychological drug screening, counseling and professional services, medical records, medical bills, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), line of duty prescriptions, and disability applications are processed through the Medical Division. The Medical Division also conducts Internal Investigations to preserve and protect the Integrity of the Department's sick leave protocols and the disability retirement system. In addition, the Medical Division's Occupational Health Assessment and Wellness Unit provides medical, educational, and nutritional counseling to members of the service and deploys a Mobile Health Vehicle that visits commands throughout the five boroughs.
