Responsibilities Assists with local implementation of the environment of care program, which includes planning, directing, and coordinating the implementation of local policy pertaining to the following environment of care program areas: Emergency Operations, Utilities Management, Medical Equipment Management, Safety Management, Fire Safety Management, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management (including Infectious Waste Management and Control) and Security Management. Assists the supervisor in the development, implementation, and oversight of written management plans addressing the major program areas of the environment of care. Assists the Emergency Preparedness Officer with emergency management drills, and completes the Hazard Vulnerability Analysis annually. Ensures the hospital's utility systems and medical equipment, are in compliance with the Utilities Management Plan and Joint Commission standards, and are maintained at regular intervals. Provides expertise and technical assistance to the Environmental and Safety Compliance Administrator regarding environment of care compliance and issues. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff's correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. Graduate Education: Major study - safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of the qualifying specialized experience are: Experience that demonstrates knowledge of Joint Commission standards, safety and occupational health management standards, regulations, and precedent decisions governing all areas of the environment of care in medical centers. Experience developing, implementing and managing environment of care programs and plans in the areas of Emergency Operations, Utilities Management, Medical Equipment Management, Safety Management, Fire Safety Management, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management. Experience providing training, presentations, and briefings for areas included in the environment of care. Experience in inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established environment of care policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications required to perform the major duties of this position as described above. Additional Information In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for original appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. The representative rate for this position is $82,148 per annum ($39.36 per hour).
