Description SUMMARY: The person in this position manages all aspects of the operations of the railroad. He or she directs and coordinates activities to obtain efficiency and economy of operations and to maximize profits. RESPONSIBILITIES: u2022Hire and supervise managers and staff; train, assign and direct work, appraise performance, discipline, and resolve problems u2022Submit annual business plan and analyze daily/monthly performance of the railroads to determine changes in operations required to stay on plan u2022Establish and maintain the railroadu2019s credibility with its customers u2022Establish the railroad within the community it serves, especially relations with connecting carriers; local suppliers; local, state, and federal politicians and governmental agencies; and the business community u2022Represent the railroad within industry trade associations u2022Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE: u2022Ability to communicate effectively by letter, telephone, and personal interview with senior management, employees, customers, railroads, regulatory officials and the general public u2022Thorough knowledge of railroad operations, including, but not limited to, transportation, dispatching, marketing, maintenance-of-way, mechanical, and clerical activities u2022Management and leadership skills commensurate with the size of staff and property u2022Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, the Code of Federal Regulations, and monthly financial reports u2022Proficient computer skills and skills in Microsoft Office u2022Prior sales and marketing experience preferred REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS: u2022Bacheloru2019s degree from a four-year college or university preferred; two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of college u2022Certified Locomotive Engineer certification preferred This position is employed by the specific entity set forth in the job posting.
